A TTUHNEYS UNITED STATES ABRAHAM KULICK, OF NEW YORK, N. 'Y.
HAND IBAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 7, 1922.
Application filed August 2, 1921. Serial No. 489,338.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, ABRAHAM KULTCK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the cityvof New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hand Bag, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to hand bags having an interior main pocket and interior side pockets on opposite sides of the main pocket.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved hand bag which is eX- ceedingly simple in construction and without seams in the body to render the hand bag exceedingly durable and neat in appearance.
Another object is to facilitate the manufacturing of the hand bag.'
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views. i
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved hand bag;
Figure 2 is an enlarged cross section of the same; v
Figure 8 is a perspective view of ythe single-piece body and the said pockets at tached thereto;
Figure 4 is a reduced plan view ofy the single. piece for forming the bag body.v
The bag body 10 is made of a single piece of leather or other suitable pliable material, and within the bag body 10 is arranged a main pocket 11 and two side pockets 12 intermediate the main pocket 11 and the sides 13 of the bag body 10. A hinged frame lat is common to the main pocket 11 and to the inner sides 15 of the side pocket-s 12, and the end members of the frame 15 are secured to the outer edges 16 of gussets 17 forming integral parts at the ends of the bag body 10, as plainly indicated in Figures 3 and 4L. The inner sides 15 of the side pockets 12 are preferably provided with reinforcing strips 18 which also reinforce the upper portions of the sides of the main pocket 11, as will be readily understood by reference to Figure 2.
on the said side pieces are secured handles` 21 to permit the user of the hand bag to con- 'i veniently carry the same about at the same time holding the side pieces 20 in closed position. The lower portions of the sides of the side pieces 20'are attached to the corresponding lower portions of the side edges 25 of the gussets 17 thus leaving the upper ortions of the side pieces free and unattac ed to permit of providing free access to the mouths of the side pockets 12. It will also be noticed that the upper portions of the reinforced sides of the inner member 15 of each side pocket 12 are attached to the corresponding edges 25 of the guets 17. In practice, the outer member 30 of each side pocket 12 extends to the top edge of the corresponding side piece 20 and is attached thereto by stitches or other suitable means.
It will be noticed that by making the bag body 10 of one single piece of material and providin` the same at the ends with the gussets l? and shirring the upper edges of the sides 13 an exceedingly roomy bag body is provided for containing the main pocket 11 and the side pockets 12. It will be noticed that by shirring the sides 13 of the body 10 as described, an exceedingly neat and ornamental appearance is given to the hand bag. Y
Vithin the main pocket 11 is preferably arranged av purse 40 of usual construction and having the hinge of its frame 41 arranged on the hinge 0f the frame 14 for the Vmain pocket 11.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: 1. In a hand bag, a bag body made of a single piece of material and having integral end gussets and sides shirred along the upper edges, a main pocket within the bag body, side pockets within the said bag body and arranged intermediate the sides of the said interior pocket and the sides of the bag body, a hinged frame connected with and common to the said main and side pockets, the outer edges of the said gussets being attached to the said frame.
2. In a. hand bag, a bag body made of a single piece of material and having integral end gussets and sides shirred along the upper edges, a main pocket Within the bag body, side pockets Within the said bag body and arranged intermediate the sides of the said interior pocket and the sides of the bag body, a hinged frame connected with and common to the said main and side pockets, the outer edges of the said gussets being attached to the said frame, side piecesy attached to the upper edges of the said shirred sides of the bag body, and handles attached to the said side pieces. i
3. In a hand bag, ka bag body made of a single piece of material and Vhaving integral gussets andsides shirred along the upper edges7 a main pocket Within the bag body,
side pockets Within the said bag body and ABRAHAM KULIoK,V
