A. B. HILL COMBINED KEY CASE AND FLASH LIGHT HOLDER Filed Sept. 20, 1923 v 5 4 i 5 5 W/ 7/1/5885 l/Vl/ENTOR erhikm fi A TTORNEVS Patented May 13, 1924.
UNITED STATES ALEXANDER B. HILL, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
COMBINED KEY CASE AND FLASH-LIGHT HOLDER.
Application filed September 20, 1923. Serial No. 663,837.
To all w hom it may concern Be it known that I, ALEXANDER B. HILL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brook lyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combined Key Case and F lash- Light Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in key cases, and has particular reference to a combined key case and flashlight holder.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved device of the above nature wherein the body portion of the device is made from a single sheet of material formed to provide key and flashlight containing compartments.
Another object is to so construct the device that the same may be readily held in a manner to permit of directing the rays from the flashlight on to a look while in the act of inserting a key into said lock.
The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detail description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the case with the cover in open position and a key withdrawn for use;
Figure 2 is a section on the line 22 of Figure 1 with the cover closed;
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view of.
the body portion of the key case;
Figure 4 is a longitudinal section taken through the body of the case;
Figure 5 is another longitudinal section in a plane at right angles tothat of Figure 4; and
Figure 6 is a plan view of the blank employed for forming the body portion.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that the body portion of the case is formed from a single sheet of material, such as metal, and consists of a bottom portion 7 having the extensions 8 and 9 on opposite sides thereof which are folded along the dotted lines 10 to form the ends of the case. Extending from one end of the blank from which the body portion is made is another extension 11 foldable along the dotted line 12 to provide one side wall of the case, the free longitudinal edge of said extension 11 being out to provide a plurality of lugs 13 which are all bent or rolled to receive a pin 14 forming a hinge for the cover 15 of the receptacle. The end of the blank forming the body portion opposite the end from which the extension 11 projects is curved longitudinally and inwardly upon the bottom portion 7, as indicated at 16, to form a compartment 17 extending longitudinally of the case at one end thereof. The free end of the portion 16 also forms a side wall opposite the side wall or extension 11 of a key receiving compartment in which is disposed adjacent one end thereof a transverse supporting rod or pin 18. A plurality of suitable key-carrying hooks 19 are pivotally mounted upon the pin 18 and each of said hooks supports a key 20 and is provided with a swivel connection 20 which permits of the free turning of the key. The ends of the members or extensions 8 and 9 adjacent the portion 16 of the blank, which is curved to form the compartment 17, are cut away, as indicated at 21, to receive the curved edges of said portion 16.
The end wall or extension 9 is provided therein with an opening 22 through which any one of the hooks 19 may be extended after the cover 15 has been swung to an open position so that the key carried by said hook may be employed in opening a look. In order that the cover 15 may be frictionally held in closed position the same may be provided adjacent its free edge, which is curved, as indicated at 23, to conform to the curvature of the portion 16, with a small projection 24 engageable in an indenture or small recess 25 formed in the portion 16.
The circular formation of the compartment 17, in cross section, is such as to permit of a lamp 526 and battery 27, each of which is conventionally shown, being mounted in said compartment, the lamp being located at the end of the compartment adjacent the wall 9. The conventional switching device 28 may also be employed to light and extinguish the lamp 26.
hat is claimed is:
1. In a device of the class described, a body portion formed from a single sheet of material bent to provide end walls and a side wall, said sheet being also bent remote from said side wall to divide said body portion into key receiving and flashlight containing compartments, and a cover for said body portion pivoted to the first named side wall and engageable with said bent portion to form a closure for the first named compartlnent.
10 ing therein and one of the bent side Walls di viding said body portion into key receiving and flashlight containing compartments, a support in the first named compartment arranged adjacent the end Wall having the opening therein, a plurality of key supporting hooks carried by said support and movable into said opening, and a cover for said body portion forming a closure for said key receiving compartment.
