Description
April 22 1924.
WITNESS:
ATTORN EY Patented pr. 22, i924.
CLARENCE LA. VERNE RINGQU-IST, 0F MOLINE, ILLINOIS.
FOUNTAIN TEN.
Application led July 30, 1923.' Serial No. 654,736.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, CLARENCE L. RING- QUIs'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Moline, in the county of Rock Island and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fountain Pens, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fountain pens, the general o'b3ect of the invention being to rovide a holder'which con- 'tains a number o ns, of the fountain type, with means for p acing the desired pen in writing position so that pens containing different colored inks or the like can be placed in the holder and thus render it unnecessary to liok for one pen after the other has been use Another object of the invention is to provide means for filling the pens while they are inthe holder.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of theV invention with one of the pens retracted and the other projected.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view with the pens in reversedA osition.
, Figure 4 is a section on ine 4--4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a section on line 5--5 of Fig-- ure 2.
Figure 6 is a section on line 6-6 of Fig-v a penv or pencil. A Vpair of pens 2 of the fountain type are arranged inV the holder. These pens are formed with portions 3 which are collapsible and which are `designed to hold the mk. The parts 4 of the pens pass through holes 5 formed in the detachable end piece 6 of the holder. The portions 4 are each provided with an ear 6 which receives the end of a. rod 7, the other end of which is fastened to an arm 8, carried by a nut 9. The nuts 9 are provided with threads for engaging the right and left hand threaded parts on a shaft 10 which passes through the holder and has a kno'b 11 connected with its outer end. The inner end is pointed and'engages a socket 12 in the end piece 6. Compressible members 13 are carried by the holder and are designed to collapse the portions 2 when pressed upon so as to permit the pens to be refilled.
From the foregoing it will be seen that by turning the shaft 10 by its knob 11 one of the pens will be projected and the other retracted. Thus the desired pen can be placed in writing position and when the other pen is to be used it is simply necessary to turn the knob in an opposite direction so that the shaft will rotate and move one pen inwardly andthe other outwardly through the nut and rod connections. One of the pens may contain red ink and the other black or the pens can be provided with different kinds of points.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising a tubular holder, a plurality of pens therein of the fountain type, means for moving the pens in the holder, said means consisting of a screw shaft having right and left hand threads thereon, .nuts engaging the threads and rods connecting the nuts with the pens.
2. A device of the class described comprising a tubular holder` a detachable end piece therefor having holes therein, a pair of fountain pens in the holder and having p0r- 6 tions engaging the holes, a shaft in the holder having left and right hand threads' thereon, nuts engaging the threads, rods connei-ting the nuts with the pens, means on the holder iox' relilling the pens and a knoh connected with the shaft for turning the l0 saine.
In tesztirnonv whereof I afiX my signature.
CLARENCE LA VERNE RINGQUIST.
