These and other objects will be apparent from the description of the invention and the drawings, it being understood that changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention and the claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a face view of the striker plate or keeper removed from the door;
Figure 2 is an end view;
Figure 3 is'a section through a door in closed position; and
to Figure 4 is a detail of the roller bearing for the door latch.
In the drawings, 1 represents the frame of an automobile or other vehicle or building to which the invention is applied, andv 85 2 is a fragment of the door. in which the spring latch is indicated at 3.
The striker plate or keeper is formed from a base plate 4 which is in general. T- shape, its lateral extensions 5 being{ provided with apertures 6 by -whichthe e is secured on the framework. The outer faceof the main arm of the plate is providedwith a plurality of corrugations 'or saw teeth 7 over which is received the adjustable striker or catch plate 8, the undersurface 'ofwhich is provlded with teeth to mate with the teeth 7, and the outers'urface of which is formed with two abrupt" faces 9jand 10, the former being about mid? way of the plate and' providmg a safety catch. Inclined surfaces 11 and 12 lead to the faces 9 and in the usual manner.
The catch plate is arranged to be fas tened in any adjusted. ositionon the base plate by means of .a. s 0t 13 in the catch plate through which passes into the base plate a screw 14 to retain the catch plate in adjusted position.
The rearmost surface on the catch late is provided with a roller 15 set in the ace 10, but projecting outwardly slightl from the surface so that the latch 3 ri es therein when the door is fully closed. The roller 15 may be provided with reduced bearings 16 by which it may be secured in position by mens of partial rings 17, if desired, although any suitable means for securing the roller in position may be devised.
The device as shown and described is extremelysimple and easy to'manufactureand adjust to take up wear or looseness in the door. Theroller 15 prevents squeaking of the door, an object which may be furthered, if desired, by making the roller from a hard fibrous or non-metallic substance.
What is claimed is: 1. A bolt keeper for doors, comprising a base plate with means by which it may be attached to the door frame, a pluralit of corrugations on the outer surface of the ase plate, a catch plate, a plurality of mating corrugations in the underside of the catch plate, safety catch and closed catch surfaces on the catch plate, means to secure the catch plate in position on the base plate, and a.
roller mounted in the closed catch surface and adapted to form a bearing surface for the door latch.
2. A bolt keeper for doors, comprising a base plate having means by-which it may be attached to the door frame, a plurality of corrugations on the outer surface of the base plate, a catch plate, a pluralit of mat ing corrugations on the undersi e of thecatch .plate, safety catch and closed catch surfaces on-the catch plate, the catch plate being provided with a slot and the base plate with a screw whereby the one may be secured in adjusted position with respect to the other, and a roller set within the closed catchsurfa'ce but projectin slightly above it affording a bearm for tl i edoor latch.
3. A bolt keeper or doors, comprising a catch plate havin an inclined surface, a
catch surface at .t e up er end of the i clined surface, and a ro ler situated in' the catch surface and projecting. outwardly therlrlafrom-to provide a bearing for the door, latc 4. A bolt keeper for doors, comprising a Laeaim catch plate having two substantially pal alallel inclined surfaces leadi to a safety lel inclined surfaces leading to a safety catch and a closedcatch, a re er projecting catch and .a closed catch, and a roller prowithin the closed catch and adapted to pro- 10 j ecting within the closed catch and adapted vide a bearing for the door latch, and means 5 to provide a bearing'for the door latch. to adjust the catch plate longitudinally.
