Description

Patented Feb. 12, 1924.
UNITED STATES arser ounce.
GEORGE D. HARRISON, OF NORTH A'ITLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO PROVIDENCE STOCK COMPANY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.v
BRACELET oLAsr.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE D. HARRISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bracelet Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bracelet clasps and pertains more especially toa clasp which is employed to effect adjustment of the diameter of the bracelet.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a clasp which enables the adjustment to be easily and quickly effected, and which at the same time effectively holds the parts in adjusted position and against accidental movement.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a clasp of this type employed in connection with metal fabric or mesh bracelets which has improved means for a connecting an end of the mesh to the clamp member of the clasp.
Another object of the invention is to provide a clasp which has means for limiting the inoperative throw of the clamp and which also is comfortable against the wrist of the wearer.
Still other objects will be later set forth and manifested in the course of the followin description' In the drawings Figure 1, is a front side elevation;
Figure 2, is a rear side elevation;
Figure 3, is a section on line 33 of Figure 1, and I Figure 4, is a detail perspective view of the yoke.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a yoke 1, is employed of generally U-shape, the sides of which are provided with inwardly extending ears 2 located at one end of the yoke. One end A of the bracelet is slidably received in the yoke. The other end B of the bracelet is provided with a finishing member 3 of U-cross-section. The sides of the member 3 at the closed end thereof are cutaway as indicated at 4 to receive the knuckles 5 formed on the outer end of the clamp 6. A pintle 10 pivotally connects the knuckles to the clamp, the pin being received in the closed end of the finishing member and is 1923. Serial No. 654,440.
A pressure plate 18 is pivoted at one end at 9 in the yoke and between the sides thereof and is engaged at its opposite end by the cam of the clamp. The end A of the bracelet engages between the pressure plate 18 and the front of the yoke and is firmly held by the plate against the yoke. The plate being of relatively considerable length effects firm holding of the bracelet end by pressure exerted on a corresponding part of the latter. The ears 2 engage and limit the inoperative throw or movement of the clamp, and at the same time prevent the more or less sharp edges of the yoke sides from cutting into the wrist of the wearer.
The pivotal connection between the end B of the bracelet and the clamp permit the parts to lie flat so asto avoid bulging and thereby avoid discomfort to the wearer and detraction from the appearance of the bracelet.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a bracelet, a U-shaped yoke receiving one end of the bracelet and having ears extending inwardly from its sides, a pressure plate pivoted at one end between the yoke sides, a clamp pivoted between the yokesides and engageable with said ears and having a cam engageable with the free end of the pressure plate and having knuckles projecting outwardly from its outer end, a finishing member of U-cross section receiving the opposite end of the bracelet andhaving cutaway parts at the sides of its closed end located beyond said opposite end of the bracelet and formed to receive the knuckles, and a pin extending through the knuckles and through the closed end of the finishing member and engaged with the entire end edge of said opposite end of the bracelet for pivotally connecting the finishing member and clamp.
2. In a bracelet, a member receiving one end of the bracelet, a pressure plate carried by the member, a clamping member pivoted to the *first member and having spaced knuckles projecting outwardly therefrom, a
member connected to the opposite end of the bracelet and having cut-outs in its outer end receiving the knuckles, and a pin 8X tending throughthe knuckles and through said member and extending over the entire end edge of said opposite end of the bracelet so as to protect and to enable the latter member and the clamping member to lie at an angle relative to each other when in operative position. i
3, In a bracelet, a member receiving one end of the bracelet, a pressure plate carried by the member, a clamping member pivoted to the first member, a member connected to the opposite end of the bracelet, and means to p'i'votally connect the clamping member and the-said member at the opposite end of the bracelet to allow said last named mem-' here to lie at an angle relative to each other enonen D. HARRISON.
