I O. ARNOLD CARD HOLDER 'Filed May 11. 1923 NNNNNN O R I Patented Jan. 29, 1924.
PATENT OFFICE.
OSCAR ARNOLD, OF WOODRIDG'E, NEW JERSEY.
cam) HOLDER.
Application filed Kay 11,
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, OSCAR Anson), a citizen of the United States, residing at Woodridge, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Card Holders, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention relates to special supports, and has for its object the provision of novel means for holding a card, sign, picture, or other flat sheet like article upon a wall or other support without making any holes through the cardor other article, the device being furthermore of such a'nature that a card of any size may be held'in such a way that it may be moreover easily removed at will. v 7
An important object is the provision of a holding means ofthis character which will be very simple and inexpensive in manufacture, highly efficient in use, durable in service and a general improvement in the art.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a show card mounted upon a wall by means of my device,
Figure 2 is a erspective view of one of my holding mem ers alone,
Figure 3 is a vertical section therethrough,
Figure 4 is a cross section. Figure 5 is a view of the blank from which it is formed.
Figure 6 is a face view of one of the holdin members.
' eferring more particularly to the drawings the letter A represents a show card, picture or other article of a flat sheet llke nature which it is desired to support upon a wall or other surface. In carrying out my invention I make use of four holders to be 1928. Serial No. 638,337.
gles to each other so as to engage against adjacent edges of the card or sheet at the corner thereof. In forming the holder from a single piece of material, it is to be noted that the sheet of material is in the nature of an elongated strip formed at one edge intermediate the ends thereof with a tong 13. This tong is bent back until its free edge registers with the adjacent edge of the sheet and is then mashed down flat. Intermediate its ends the sheet is folded over upon the line 1 1 and mashed down with the free edge of this bent end arranged at a point spaced considerably from the opposite end of the sheet. Prior to this bending a penetrating member is provided and mounted in place and While this penetrating member might vary in its details, it is here illustrated as being of an ordinary thumb tack 15 which is pressed through the sheet and which is held in place by the folding of one end thereof as above described. Subsequent to these operations, the ton 13 is bent at ri ht angles to the body o the device to de no the above described flange 11 while that portion of the sheet located between the free end thereof and the end of the folded over portion is bent at right angles and then rebent again at right angles to provide the above described flange 12.
In using my devices they are simply placed upon a wall or other support at the desired points to receive the corners of the card or other sheet to be displayed and held and when pressure is applied the penetrating member will be forced into the wall or ot er support and will operate to maintain the device firmly in place. The flanges 11 are so disposed as to engage against the side edges of the card or sheet, while the flanges 12 overhang the top and bottom edges, though of course the reverse arrangement might be followed if such should be found preferable there being no restriction as to the exact manner of use. It is to be noted that a very important feature is the fact that there are no holes or anything else to deface the card, picture or the like and that the card may be easily removed from or inserted within the holders in a very simple manner.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention it is not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention 1 claim:
1. Means for holding a fiat sheet against a support, comprising a plurality of members adapted to have the corners of the sheet engaged therewith, each member being formed from a single piece of resilient metal bent intermediate its ends to definea main portion having one edge bent and rebent to define a flange and having an adjacent end bent over to define an overhanging flange, other portion of the sheet being bowed toward thecenter of the main portion and having its free end engaged beneath said overhanging flange, and a penetrating member carried by said main portion, the flat sheet having its corner l'orced between said overhanging flangeand the free end portion engaged therebeneath.
2. Means for holding a flat sheet against a support, comprising a plurality of members adapted to have the corners of the sheet engaged therewith, each member being formed from a single piece of resilient metal bent intermediate its ends to define a main portion having one edge bent and rebent to define a flange and having an adjacent end bent over to define an overhanging flange, the other portionof the sheet being bowed toward the,cente-r of the main portion and having its free end engaged beneath said overhanging flange and a penetrating me1nbcr carried by said main portion, the flat sheet having its corner forced between said overhanging flange and the free endportion engaged therebeneath, the penetrating member being of a tack like nature and having its head engaged between the two portions of said member.
3. A device of the character described formed from asingle piece of metalbent intermediate its ends to define a main portion and a spring tongue, the main portion having a flange at one edge and an overhanging flange at an adjacent edge, said tongue being bowed toward the main portion and engaged beneath the overhanging fl,ange,. and,
a headed fastener projecting through said main portion and having its head engaged by the tongue.
In testimony whereof I aflix masi OSCAR A OLD. 7
