" v UNITED STATES The invention relates to a stand or support for displaying price cards and the like.

An object of the invention is to provide a simple device for eflectively displaying and supporting price cards and the like, which may be constructed by stamping and forming same out of a single piece of sheet material.

Another object of the invention is to provide a display device with the above mentioned features, which. is neat in appearance, presents smooth edges and surfaces, and has all of its parts coentire device may be made of relatively light gauge sheet metal ahd still be strong and durable.

The invention possesses other objects and features of advantage, some of which, with the foregoing, will be set forth in the following description-of the preferred form of the invention which is illustrated in the drawing accompanying and forming part of the specification. It is to be understood, however, that variations in the showing made by the said drawing and description may beadopted within the scope of the invention as set forth in the claims.

In the drawing, which depicts the invention in its preferred form, the device is arranged to be made in one-piece and is desirably. formed of sheet metal. One method of forming the device is illustrated, and comprises in general, in cutting or stampinga sheet metal blank 2 such as illustrated in Figure 3, and then by a succession of bending and folding operations made into the completed form shown in Figures 1 and 2.

In its final form,v the device desirably comprim angularly related sections generally denoted by thev reference numerals I and I and which may be conveniently termed the cardholding section and device supporting section respectively. The supporting section 4 is formed. to present a substantially flat base and is so related'to the card holding section that when-the device is-positioned on'a table'or shelf the cardoperating to reenforce each other so that the a PATENT OFFICE.

The section 3 is designed to have removabiy held thereon suitable cards 6, or the like, on which aforesaid are designed to engage the opposite edges of the cards and are in the nature of transversely extending grooves or channels formed in section 3 at the top and bottom thereof and at some point-intermediate such top and bottom. The channel 8 which is at the top of section 3 is formed by merely bending the upper edge portion of the section over but spaced from the front face 5 of the section 'so as to thus form the;

channel with the open side lowermost. The channel 8 which'is the one located at the bottom of the section, is formed by bending upwardly a portion I! of the material thereat so as to provide a groove with its open side uppermost. The portion I! may be considered as part of the integral strip I 3 which unites the two sections together, v and preferably, such-strip I3 is folded over the forward portion of section .4 whereby the section 3 will be more rearwardly disposed and the device will be less apt to tip over at the front.

To provide the intermediate channels on the front side of section 3, a centrally disposed portion of such section is offset outwardly so as to provide a transversely extending rib il having its greater thickness at its forward portion Ordinarily when the device is used as a price indicator, the cards in the lower portion of the section will contain the price, while the upper card or cards will have marked thereon some descriptive mattersuch as special, as advertised,

etc. If on the other hand it is desired to hold and display a relatively large card, the latter is 'whereby opposed grooves i6 and II will be demade so as to engage in grooves 8 and 9. It may be incidentallynoted that in most instances the cards are made of such size that they will bow outwardly when the opposed edges thereof are operatively disposed in the cooperating grooves. It should also be noted that with the grooves formed in the manner described, no sharp or rough edges will be exposed, and this feature is of importance since frequent handling of the device, particularly for replacing the cards therein, usually occurs.

As a means of bracing the section 3 and at the same time reenforcing the entire device, tongues 2i are struck up from the side edges of the section 4 and made to abut against both the upper and lower portions of the first section. The tongues are preferably secured at their outer extremity to the upper portion of section 3, and desirably such attachment may be effected by spot-welding or" the like. It is to be noted that the tongues form with the sections triangular trusses, and this feature coupled with the bracing eifect provided by folding and ofisetting of the metal to provide the card edge receiving grooves, provides for a very sturdy construction and permits making the device of extremely light gauge sheet material.

For permitting the holder to be readily secured to the goods with which it is being used, so as to prevent accidentalmisplacement of the holder by the customer, such as when the latter is allowed access to the goods, a lug 22 is struck up from the base and is of such form that when an ordinary can is positioned on end upon the base, the lower seam of the can may be entered between the ing and base and held resiliently gripped thereby. To assist in holding the can and holder more effectively together, an ordinary elastic band is desirably also placed around them.

I claim:

1. A display card holder comprising a onepiece sheet metal body having angularly related sections one of which is arranged to provide a base for supporting the other section in an upright position, said second section having vertically spaced substantially coplanar portions united by a transversely extending portion forming with said first portions opposed grooves arranged for the reception of card edges, said upper of said first portions being formed at the upper margin with a transverselly extended folded portion providing a card edge receiving groove arranged to cooperate with said one of the grooves aforesaid for retaining a'card upon said upper portion, said lower of said first portions being united with said base section by a transversely extending portion forming with said lower portion a groove arranged to cooperate with the other of said opposed grooves for holding a card upon said lower portion, and said base section having stuck up therefrom bracing strips extending to said rear of said first mentioned portions and secured thereat to each of them.

2. A display card holder comprising, a blank sheet metal provided with a crosswise fold at a portion being provided across an intermediate part thereof with a transverse fold extending forwardly froin'said portion and being reduced at said portion to define upwardly and downwardly opening grooves incorporated with said above mentioned grooves for receipt of upper and lower edges of supporting cards.

3. A display card holder comprising, a pair of angularly related sides one being adapted for positioning on a shelf or the like to support the other in upright position, card supporting means provided on said upright side, and a member over-- lying the supporting side and adapted for engagement with the bottom rim of a can to secure the device thereto.

4. A display card holder comprising, a blank of sheet metal formed to provide angularly related sides one being adapted for support on a shelf or the like tohold the other in upright position,
