Application filed April 24, 1923.; Serial No. 634,310.
2" all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. HENRY W. BEIL, a citizen of the United States,,and a resident of San Francisco, county of San F rancisco,
'10 object is to provide a sanitary tooth brush that will allow the teeth to be flushed at the same time they are brushed. It is proposed to allow water from any suitable source to enter through the handle into the, bristle covered area while the brush is being used, and to furthermore distribute the liquid over the entire area, while at the same time guiding the liquid which may be under pressure so as tobc directed against. the teeth; i
The preferred form of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 shows my tooth brush in longitudinal section, Figure 2 in plan view and Figure 3 in cross section taken along line IIlIlI of Figure 1. llhile I have shown only the preferred form of my invention, I wish to have it understood that various changes or modifications may be made within the scope. of the claim hereto attached without departing from the spirit of the invention.
My tooth brush '(1) comprises a handle (2) and -a plurality of bristles (3) extending laterally from one end of the handle. The bristles are preferably arranged,- in the manner shown in Figure 2, that is in three parallel rows with each second set of bristles omitted in the central row so as to leave space for perforations (4) which' allows each perforation to be surrounded by eight sets of bristles. The central space between the eight sets of bristles is raised to provide a boss (6) through which the perforation ,extends, the bossserving as a guide and be- I ing adapted to give direction to the stream of liquid forced through a long passage (7) in the handle. The latter passage extends from, the bristle covered area .to the other 7 end of the handle and communicates with a tube (8) adapted to be secured to the corrugatedend of the handle as shown at (9) and to engage with its free end a pipe (11) which may communicate with any suitable supply of water. It may represent for the purposes of this invention the lower end'of a faucet connected with the city water supply. v
Themanner-of using the tooth brush will be readily understood from the foregoing no description. .After the tooth paste has been applied to] the brush and the tooth brush has been properly connected to the supply of Water by- 'means of the tube (8) the operator may apply the brush to his teeth and .65 while he is brushing the teeth he may turn on the water'so that his teeth are flushed while they are 'beingbrushed. The particu: lar arrangement of the bosses in the central I row of bristles causes a thorough distribu- 7o tion of the water while at the same time giving directional force to the same whereby a thorough cleaning of the teeth isfacilitated. j
I claim: y 7 A tooth brush comprising an elongated rigid handle with a lon 'tudinal hole having an outlet at the end 0 the handle adapte for a hose connection, a row of spaced ports extending from the hole through one side of 30 thehandle and each surrounded by a raised boss formed integral with the-handle, a plurality of s aced tufts of bristles projecting from 'the iandle arranged along all sides.
of the bosses and between the bosses. HENRY W. BEIL.
