1e accompanying drawings. ling a part of the application, igure 1 is side view of a. pipe wrench embodying the invention,
is a detail view showing the relation of the parts when the adjustable aw is released, and
l ig's. 3 and are sectional views on the lines and l i of Fig. 2, the one looking to the left and the other to the right as designated by the arrows.
Corrcspondi -.ri.ous changes Referring to t and like parts are referred n the following description and desigated n the several views of the drawings v like reference characters.

PIPE WRENCH.
jaw 2 at 7 embraces opposite sides of the shank -i and the outer edge thereof and admits of a limited pivotal movement of the jaw 3. A loop 8 fast to the rear end of the shank t depends therefrom and receives the handle 1 which is slidable therethrough. A dog 9 is pivoted to the loop 8 at 10 and cooperates with teeth 11 along the lower edge of the handle 1 whereby to hold the jaw in the required adjusted position. The dog 9 has a rear depending portion 12 to be engaged by a digit of the hand when it is required to disengage the dog from the teeth 11 to admit of adjustment of the jaw 3. A finger piece 13 projects laterally from the rear portion of the dog 9 for a like purpose to the depending part 12. A spring 14 fast at one end to the loop 8 coacts with the dog 9 to hold it in engagement with the teeth, whereby to maintain the jaw 3 in the required adjusted position.
In the operation or": the wrench, after the jaw 3 has been adjusted to the work, the handle 1 in effect pivots on the end of the dog 9 and the latter oscillates on its pivot 10, the shackle 6 playing up and down as the handle is oscillated in the ratchet action of the wrench in manner well understood.
\Vhat is claimed is:
A wrench of the character specified comprising a handle provided at its outer end with a. fixed jaw, an adjustable jaw having a shank resting on the upper edge of the hen die, a shackle pivoted. to the outer end of the handle and loosely engaging said shank, the rear end of said shank being upwardly carved, aloop secured to the'rear end of the shank about said curved portion and depending from the shank and loosely receiving the handle, the lower edge of said landle being; provided with teeth, a pivoted dog carried by said 100 i and selectively engageable with said teet 1, and a spring car ried by the lower portion of said loop and acting to normally hold said dog in engagement with a selected one of said teeth.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
