State of Massachusctts` have invente-d an Improvement iu .Feeding Mechanisms for Sewing Machines. of which the following description. in connection with the accompanying drawing` is a specification` like diameters on the drawing representing like parts.
This invention relates to improvements in feeding mechanism for sewing machines and the object thereof is to provide a novel feeding mechanism in which a cti-ordination between the action of the feeding mechanism and the stitch forming mechanism will be at all times preserved.
More specifically the: invention relates to improvements in feeding mechanisms for sewing machines of the type in which a needle' and complemental stitch forming mechanism are carried and operated above the work support, the feeding mechanism also being carried above the work support and actuated by the mechanisms which Aform andset the stitches. This preferably is accomplished by actuating the mechanisms` for 'ausing the forward and backward move.- ment of the feed dog and the. mechanism for raising and lowering the feed dog from a single actuating instrumentality such as a device eccentrically disposed upon the main shaft of the machine.
A further object of the invent-ion is to provide a feeding mechanism for sewing machines in which the backward and forward movement of the feed dog will be actuated from the take-up mechanism, the up and down movement of the feed dog preferably being produced by the needle actuating mechanism.
A further object of the invention is to provide an upper feed dog which may be conveniently adjusted,
Another object of the invention is to provide a machine comprising an oscillating needle and complemental stitch forming mechanism including means for holding a bobbin or bobbin case. with an upper feed dog so constructed as to permit the removal of the bobbin or bobbin case through said feed dog.
In sewing machines heretofore constructed having upper feeding mechanism, the feed dog is provided with parallel rows of teeth which engage the work on opposite sides of the seam. By reason of this construction, the seam, passing beneath thel rigid presser foot sometimes forces the work support down so far that the teeth of one or both of the rows of teeth fail to engage the work, consequently the work on one side of the seam is advanced more rapidly than upon the other and the goods improperly presented to the needle.
A further object of the present invention therefore is to provide an upper feed dog having work engaging members which extend nearly across the full width of the presser foot so thatl a proper feeding action is obtained irrespective of the position of tzhetseam as it passes beneath the presser A further object of the invention is to provide means for stripping the work from the feed dog as the latter is .raised in preparation for its forward movement to aga-in engage and advance the goods.
A further object of the invention isi to provide means for supporting and actuating an upper feed dog in which all the joints and connections which support the feed dog will be at the rear of the presser foot thereby giving the operator an unobstructed view of the stitching point. l
A further object of the invention is to provide an upper feed dog with a greater work engaging surface at the rear of the stitching point than in front of the same.
A further object of the invention is to provide an upper feed dog having a. plurality of independently yieldable work engaging members.
A further feature of the invention consists in providing the upper feed dog withv a pivotal support. about which the feed dog is raised and lowered and which may be moved forward and backward to feed the work, said pivotal support being positioned in the rear of the presser foot, below the loop taker and preferably approximately in the plane of the work engaging surface of the presser foot, whereby the feed dog may be properly raised and lowered from the work during the feeding operation.
Other objects and features of the invention including detail mechanisms will more fully appear from the drawing and the following speciication and will be particularly pointed out in the annexed claims.
The invention is disclosed in the accompianying drawings as applied to a sewing machine for felling of the Arbetter type, which comprises a curved oscillating needle and complemental stitch forming mechanism located above the work support, the work support being yieldably sustained in co-operative relation to a rigid presser foot earried by the head of the sewing machine, but it will be understood that the embodiment of the invention ina machine of this type is illustrative and is not restrictive of its use in other types of machines'to which it may be applied.

The sewing machine illustrated in the accompanying drawings comprises a bed plate 1 preferably having adjacent one end an upwardly extending boss 2 forming a seat for the lower end of a vertical hollow standard 3v which is integral with an arm 4 extending over the bed plate and having at its end a head 5 which contains or supports the stitch forming mechanism and feeding mechanism hereinafter to be described.
The-main shaft 6 is journalled in suitable bearings in the arm and standard and is actuated through a pulley 7 which desirably is rotatably mounted upon a sleeve 8 fixedly secured to one end of the shaft, the pulley 7 being. releasably clamped to the sleeve by a nut 9 having a milled flange 10. Means are provided at the opposite end of the shaft 6 for actuating the stitch forming mechanism and the feeding mechanism.
The stitch forming mechanism comprises a curved oscillating needle 11 xedly secured in the end of a needle bar 12 which is pivotally mounted upon a stud 13 extending across the bifurcated lower end of a bracket 14 which is adjustably secured at the lower end of a needle bar supporting lever 15 which preferably is journalled at its upper end upon a transverse shaft 16 extending across the head of the machine, preferably substantially in the plane of the maaar@ line of stitching, whereby the lever may he shogged laterally to produce paralled rows of stitches.
The opposite end of the needle har 12 is connected by a universal joint. 1T to the lower end of a link 13 which 'is connected at its upper end by a universal joint 19 to the free end of a needle actuating lcvcr 2l) which has at its opposite end a boss 2l mounted upon a cylindrical pivot 22 having a stud 23 projecting eccentrically from its end seated'in a boss projecting from the inner wall of the head and secured therein by a suitable set screw. The outer end of the pivot 22 is provided wth a slotted head which is adapted to receive a screw driver for rotarily adjusting said pivot. y means of this adjustment the arc of oscillation of the needle may be regulated to causc the needle to (zo-operate properly with thc rotary hook. The needle actuating lcvcr 20 is connected intermediate of its ends to the upper end of a link 24, the lower end of which is pivotally mounted upon a stud A25 having a stem 26 ixedly secured in thc end of the shaft (i but eccentrically in respeta to the axis thereof.
By reason of this construction rotation oll the main shaft 6 causes an oscillation of the needle actuating lever 20 about its pivotal support thereby reciprocating the link 13 and oscillating the needle bar and needle in the usual manner.
By reason of the adjustment of the pivotal end of the needle actuating lever 2f) the stitching point, or point of entry of the needle into the goods and` point of emergence therefrom, may be varied and the needle also adjusted into proper co-operative relation to the complemental stitch forming mechanism.
rEhe complemcntal stitch forming mechanism comprises a rotating loop taker or hook 27 carried at the lower end of a. shaft 28 which is suitably journalled in the hook bracket 29 projecting downwardly from the lower portion of the head of the machine.
,A boss 30 extending upwardly within the head of the machine serves also as a bearing for the shaft 28. The upper end of the shaft 28 is provided with a gear 31 which meshes with a gear 32 lixedly secured upon the end of the driving shaft. The relation of the gears 31 and 32 desirably are two to ont` so that the revolving loop taker or hook will make two rotations to every reciprocaton of the needle as is usual in the .irbetter type of machines.
In order to set the stitch which is formed by the co-operation of t-he needle and loop taker and to maintain proper timing relation between the parts, the take-up desir-ably is driven from the same stud as that which actuates the needle mechanism. To this end the link 24 is provided with an offset extenltlfi llo sion 33 having at its end a stud 34 to which the take-up actuating bar 35 is pivotally connected.
The' bar 35 is slidably journalled in a suitable' way in a block 36 which is pivotally mounted upon trunnions 37 in the arms of a bracket 38, the lower ends of which are secured to the upwardly projecting boss 30. in which the hook shaft 28 is mounted. The block 36 is provided with an extension or flange 39 to which the take-up 40 is secured by suitable screws.
It will therefore be obvious that the rotation of the stud 25, which is eccentrically of the main shaft 6, will cause the operation of the needle mechanism and also they takeup-mechanism and that the movements of these mechanisms Will be always maintained in proper timed relation.
Suitable means may be provided for vibrating the needle laterally to form two parallel lines of stitching such as are employed in felling, padding and overseaming. In the construction illustrated in the accom-l panying drawings this is accomplished by means of a pitman comprising a rod 41 having a reduced extension 42 extending through a suitable aperture in the needle bar supporting lever 15, a. spring 43 surrounding the extension 42 being clamped between the needle bar supporting lever 15 and a nut 44 on said extension. I
The pitman rod 41 is adjustably secured in the end of a member 45 having ways 46 and a cap 47 embracing a cam 48 upon a shaft 49 mounted transversely in the head of the machine. said shaft being operated by a gear 50 tixedly secured upon the huby of the cam 48 and engaging a complementary gear 51 located adjacent the end of the main shaft 6.
ln the operation of the machine the gear 51 which is secured upon the shaft 6 of course rotates in unison with the needle actuating mechanism and through the gear 50 actuates the cam 43 to reciprocate the pit? man 41. The shoulder on the pitman 41 formedV by the reduction required to provide the extension 42 abuts against the side of the needle bar supporting lever 15 and as the pitman is reciprocated in one direction serves to force the needle bar actuating lever laterally. As the pitman reciprocates in the opposite direction it reciprocates the needle bar actuating lever through the action of the nut 44 on the extension 42 upon the springI 43. By adjusting the pitman rod 41 in its socket in the member 45 the field of lateral vibration of the needle may be varied while by clamping the needle bar supporting lever against movement in its eXtreme outward position (toward the left), the vibratory action of the pitman on said lever may be eliminated since the spring 43 will, by compression, permit the reciprocation of the pitman without actuating the needle bar supporting lever while, during thc reciprocation ol the pitman in the other direction the extension will play freely through the aperture in said lever.
Any suitable means may be provided for locking the needle bar supporting lever. A convenient means which is disclosed herein comprises a set screw 52 seated in the front wall of the lower portion of the head ol' the sewing machine and having its end positioned to engage the side of a cross head on the needle bar supporting lever 15 which is guided in suitable ways in the lower portion ol the head.
A By reason of this construction the machine is adapted to be operated either to form two parallel lines of stitching such as are employed in blind stitching or to produce blind stitch straightaway stitching.
The work is presented to the stitch forming mechanism by an upper feed dog which co-operates with a vieldable work support in advancing the work tor the successive stitches, suitable bender mechanism also being provided to thrust the material of the base layer into the path of the needle when filling or padding operations are being performed. i
A preferred form of work supporting mechanism which is illustrated herein comprises a work support which is yicldably sustained by a'spring 54 carried by a tubular member 55 which is slidably mounted on suitable bosses in a bracket 5G secured to4 the under surface of the bed 1. suitable means being provided for depressing the tu` bular member 55 and work support to permit the insertion and removal ot the work.
The work support 53 co-operates with the presser foot 57" which has ears 58 which are rigidly secured to the front tace ot the hook bracket. The toe portions 5f) and G0 of the presser foot are provided with slotsl 61 and G2 respectively which receive and form ways for the work engaging members 63 and (S4 of the feed dog. These work engaging members comprise relatively narrow bars having serrated work engaging faces and are provided adjacent their rear ends with broadened portions 65 and 66 which are formed integral with lateral extensions 6T, 68 which are seated in wavs 70. .71 in preferably horse shoe shaped leed bar 22 and are secured therein b v set screws 73, T4. The arms of tbe borse-shoe shaped feed bar are somewhat resilient so that each of the work engaging members is ,capable of independcnt yielding movement, thereby insuring proper engagement of the feed dog with the work upon each side ot' the line of stitching.
The broadened portions of the work engaging members' desirably present a greater surface for engaging the. work behind the stitching point than that of the parallel work engaging members 63, 64 which extend alongside of the line -of stitching and in front of the stitching point. This positive engagement of the goods closely adjacent the line of stitching insures a proper holding of the goods while the take up sets the stitches and also thc uniform advancement ol`the goods by the feed dog. thereby prevent-ing checking or wrinkling along the seam. rlhe adjacent ends of the broadened portions 65, 66 of the work engaging members are slightly separated to form a space 75 to receive a stripper 76 extending rearwardly from the presser foot. y
The stripper 76, as illustrated herein, has lateral extensions 77 which embrace a correspondingly shaped portion of the heel of the presser foot and are secured to it by screws. The broadened portions 65, 66 of the cloth engaging portions of the presser foot feed dogs insure a firm grasp upon the material throughout substantially the entire width of the work irrespective of the position in which a seam may be passing beneath the presser foot while the stripper 75 serves to detach the work from the feed dog as it is raised before beginning its return movement. The horse shoe shaped feed bar 72 -desirably is of sufiicient length and area. to extend beyond the hook bracketand is provided with an aperture 77 large enough to permit access to the bobbin case so that the latter may be removed through it. A cover plate 78 pivotally mounted upon a stud 79 and provided with a suitable latch serves normally to close the aperture through the feed bar.
The feed bar 72 is provi-ded at its rear end with a pair of oppositely disposed bosses in which screws 80, 81 having cylindrical ends form trunnions upon which a feed dog supporting lever is pivoted, This pivotal support for the .feed dog is located at the rear of the bracket which contains the rotary hook or other loop taker and lies below the loop taker substantially in the. plane of the work engaging surface of the presser foot.
Bv reason of this location for the pivot of the feed dog it may be oscillated to cause the work engaging members to engage the work throughout their entire area during the feeding movement and to be completely released from engagement with the work preparatory to the return movement of the feed dog. rlie feed dog supporting lever preferably is in the form of a bell crank having a vertically adjustable fulcrum by means of which the feed dog may be raised or lowered bodily relatively to the work engaging surface of the work support to fa.- cilitate assembling and to enable the proper relation of thefeed dog and work support to be maintained notwithstanding any wear which may occur.
In the preferred construction disclosed herein the bell crank lever comprises an arm 82 which is pivotally connected at its lower end to the trunnions 80, 81 and at its upper end is provided with a boss which is rigidly secured to a rock shaft 83 in the following manner. mounted in the boss of the arm 82 and vclamped upon the shaft 83 by a set screw 81* extending. through said boss and abutting against the outer Wall of said eccentric provides means for varying the effective length of the arm 82 consequently by rotarlly adjusting the eccentric 84 the feed dog may be raised and lowered relatively to the work Support.
The rock shaft 83 is mounted in bosses i a bracket 85 which is secured to the hook bracket 29. The other arm 86 of the bell crank lever is secured to the end of the shaft 83 and is provided at its upper end with a cam which is engaged by a roller 87 carried by the pivotally mounted block 36 of the ta e-up. Any desirable form of cam may be employed. One form which 'is illustrated in Fig. 2 comprises a cam plate 88 which is pivotally connected to a stud 89 seated in the upper end of the arm 86 of the feed dog supporting bell crank lever. The plate 88 is provided with a cam surface 90 upon which the roller en ages during the oscillation 'of the take-up b ock 36.
The cam plate 88 is provided at its lower end with a set screw 91 which extends through a slot 92 in an enlarged portion 93 of the upper arm 86 of the bell crank lever and is adapted to be clamped by said set screw in adjusted positions which will so position the cam that a greater or less throw of the lever may be effected, thereby enabling the extent of feeding movement of the feed dog to be adjusted.
In the construction illustrate-d in Fig. 2 the cam is a face cam and therefore enabled to move the lever arm 86 in one direction only. Resilient means may be provided for movlng the lever in the opposite direction. A convenient mechanism for accomplishing this purpose comprises a helical spring 94 which at one end embraces a stud 95 projecting from a ange 96 upon the bracket 38 which supports the pivot for the take-up block. The opposite end of the spring 94 is seated in a socket in a screw 97 which is adjustably seated in the arm 86 so that the compression of the spring 94 may be adjusted in accordance with the requirements of the work.
An alternative form of feed cam is illustrated in Fig. 3 and comprises a plate 98 having parallel flanges 99 and 100 providing between them a cam groove 101. This cam plate has a screw threaded aperture 102 to receive the screw 89 for securing it to the upper end of the lever and a screw threaded aperture 103 to receive the set screw 91 to A split eccentric 84 adjustably'.I
clamp it adjustably upon the lever arm 86 'positively in opposite directions.
Any suitable means may be provided for raising and lowering, the feed dog in proper timed relation to the forward and backward movement thereof. A convenient device comprises an arm 104 which is fixedly secured to the rear end of the feed bar 72 by screws 105.
The opposite end of the arm 104 is pivotally connected to a stud 106 which is seated in a block 107 having a stem. 108 adjustably secured'by a set screw 109 in a boss 110 at the lower end of a link 111 which is pivotally connected at its upper end to a stud 112 seated in a boss 11.3 extending upwardly from the needle actuating lever 20. By reason of the adjustability o-f the connection between the arm 104 and the lilik 111 the feed dog may be adjusted relatively to the work support so that its work engaging face may be arranged in parallelism with the work support or slightly inclined thereto so that either the toe or heel of the feed dogmay be caused rst to engage the work. By thus connecting the arm which moves the feed dog into and out of engagement with the needle actuating lever an accurate co-ordination between the movement of the needle and the feed dog is always maintained and the work therefore held properly during the penetration of the needle into the goods,
By imparting a forward and backward movement to the feed do through the variable movement of the tare-up mechanism a rapid feeding and return movement of the feed dog is accomplished with intermediate periods of dwell during the formation of the stitch.
It will be noted that in this construction the feeding of the goods is accomplished wholly by the action of the feed dog pressing down upon the work support with sulicient force to release the engagement between the work support and the presser foot and that immediatel upon release of the feed dog from its ceding operation the work is tightly clamped between the work support and the presser foot. The stripper 75 which extends between the broadened portion 66 and 67 of the feed dog insures the stripping of the goods from the feed dog without any possibility of an adhesion thereto which would ycause a misplacement of the work. It will be noted that in the present invention the feeding mechanism is entirely'located above the work support and thereby is wholly removed from possible interference with the bender mechanism which is employed, when the machine is adapted for felling, to present the base layer in the path of the'needle.
So far as I am aware no feeding mechamsm has heretofore been applied to a blind stitch sewing machine in which the movements of the feed dog have been'produced through the action of the take-up mechanlsm and the needle actuating mechanism or 1n which the longitudinal movement of the feed dog and the up and down movement thereof have been produced from the same rotating instrumentality, which as specifi- I cally disclosed herein is the ecce-ntrically positioned stud projecting from the end of the main shaft of the machine.
It will be understood that the embodiment of the invention disclosed herein is illustrative and not restrictive and that the same `may be adapted for other types of machines and thatvarious modifications in-'structure and arrangement of parts may be made within the spirit and scope of the followlng claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a sewing machine comprising stitch forming mechanism including a pivotally mounted take up, feeding mechanism and means operable by the take-up in its oscillating movement for moving said feeding mechanism in the direction of the line of feed to advance the work.
2. In a sewing machine comprising stitch forming mechanism including a take up, feeding mechanism and means operable by said take up for actuating said feedin mechanism in the direction of the line o feed to advance the work and resilient means for actuating said feeding mechanism in the other direction.
3. In a sewing machine comprising stitch forming mechanism including a take up, feeding mechanism and'means operable by said take up for actuating said feeding mechanism in the direction of the line of feed to advance the work, resilient means for actuating said feeding mechanism in the other direction, and means for adjusting said resilient means.
4. In a sewing machine comprising stitch forming mechanism including a pivotally mounted take up, a feed dog, a lever connected to said feed dog and means operable by said take up for actuating lsaid lever to impart a feeding movement to said feed dog.
5. In a sewing machine comprising stitchforming mechanism including a pivotally mounted take up, a feed dog, a lever pivotally connected at one end to said feed dog and means on said take up engaging said lever acting to oscillate said lever and thereby to impart a feeding movement to said feed dog.
6. In a sewing machine comprising stitch iti forming mechanism including a take up, a f ced dog` a lever connected at one end to said feed dog, a caln on said level', and means on said take up engaging said cam acting to actuate said lever and thereby impart a feedinef movement to said feed dog.
i. In a sewing machine comprising stitch forming mechanism including a take up, a feed dog, a lever connected at one end to said feed dog, a cam on said lever, means on said take up engaging said cam acting to actuate said lever and thereby reciprocate said feed dog, and means for adjusting said cam wherebv the amplitude of reciprocation of said feed dog may be varied.
8. In a sewing machine comprising a bed, an overhanging arm and head, stitch forming mechanism includino an osclllatlngr needle, aneedle-actuating*lever and a takeup carried by said head, means for actuating both said needle actuating lever and said take-up, va feed dog, means operable by the movement of said take-up to impart a feeding movement to said feed dog and means operable bythe movement of saidneedle actuating lever to raise and lower said feed dog.
9. In a sewing machine comprising a bed, an overhanging arm and head, a shaft mounted therein, stitch forming mechanism including an oscillatory needle and an oscillating take-up carried by said head, means operable from said shaft respectively to actuatc said needle and said take up, a feed dog, means operable by said needle actuating means to raise and lower said feed dog and means operable by said take up to impart forward and backward movement to said feed dog.
10. In a sewing machine comprising a bed. an overhaneing arm and head, stitch forming mechanism carried by said head including av curved oscillatory needle and a needle actuating lever, a feed dog, andmeans operable by the movement of said needle actuating lever for raising and lowering said feed dog.
11. In a sewing machine comprising a bed, an overhanging arm and head and stitch forming mechanism including needle actuating mechanism and a take up carried by said head, a feed dog, a feed dog supporting lever pivotally connected to said feed dog fulcrumed on said head, means for actuating said lever from said take up to give a forward'and backward movement to said feed dog, an arm connected to said feed dog and to said needle actuating mechanism and operable by the latter to impart up and down movement to said feed dog.
12. In a sewing a machine comprising a bed, an overhanging arm and 'head and stitch forming mechanism including mechanism including needle actuating mechanism and a take up carried by said head, a feed dog` a feed dog supportingvlever pivotally connected to said feed dog fulcrumed on said head, means for actuating said lever from said take up to give a forward and baclnvard movement to said feed dog, an arm rigid with said feed dog pivotally connected to said needle actuating mecha-- nism and operable by the latter to impart up and down movement to said feed dog.
13. In a sewing machine comprising a bed, an overlmnging arm and headand stitch forming mechanism supported by said head including a bobbin carrier, feeding mechanism mounted on said head including a feed dog having an'aperture through which the bobbin may be inserted or removed.
14. ln a sewing machine comprising a bed, an overhanging arm and head and stitch forming mechanism supported by said head including a bobbin carrier, feeding mechanism mounted on said head including a feed dog having an aperture through which the bobbin may be inserted or removed, and a cover plate for saidapertiue.
15. In va sewing machine comprising a bed, an overhangingr arm and head and stitch forn'iing mechanism supported by said-head including a carrier, feeding mechanism mounted on said head including a horse-shoe shaped feed bar having feed dogs secured thereto and presenting an aperlure through which the bobbin may be inserted or removed from the bobbin carrier.
16. In a sewing machine having a bed, an overhanging arm and head and stitch forming nwehanism carried by said head, a
presser foot having" feed dog receiving guideivays. a feed dog having work engaging portions reciprocable in said guideways and enlarged toothed work engaging portions at the rear of said presser foot extending in proximity to the line of stitching, and means for stripping the work from said enlarged Work engaging portions of said feed dOg.
17. In a sewing machine having a bed, an overhangingr arm and head and stitch forming mechanism carried by said head, a presser foot` having feed dog receiving guideways` a feed dog having work engaging portions reciprocable in said guideways and enlarged toothed Work engaging portions at the rear of said presser foot extending substantially across the Width of the presser foot.
18. In a` sewing machine having a bed, an overhanging arm and head aud stitch forming mechanism carried by said head, a presser foot having feed dog receiving guideivays, a feed dog having work engaging portions rcciprocable in said guideways and enlarged toot-hed work engaging portions at the rear of said presser'foot eX- tending substantially across the Width of the presser foot and a tongue extending rearwardly from said presser foot between said enlarged Work engaging portions, acting to strlp the work therefrom when the feed dog is raised.
19. In a sewing machine comprising a bed, an overhangng arm and head, a curved oscillating needle and complemental stitch forming mechanism carried by said head including a depending bracket supporting a rotary loop taker; an upper feed dog, means pivotally secured to said bracket supporting said feed dog and means for actuating said feed dog.
20. In a sewing machine comprising a bed, an overhangng arm and head, a curved oscillating needle and complemental stitch forming mechanism carried by said head includingT a depending bracket supporting a rotary loop taker, an upper feed dog, a feed dog supporting lever pivotally connected to the rear of vsaid bracket and to said feed dog, means for actuating said supporting lever and means for raising and lowering said feed dog.

In a sewing machine comprising a bed. an overhangng arm and head, a curved oscillating needle and complemental stitch forming mechanism carried by said head including a depending bracket supporting a rotary. loop taker; an upper feed dog, a pivotal support therefor located substantially in the plane of the work engaging surface of the presser foot, means for oscillating said feed dog about its pivot and means for advancing and retracting said'feed dog.
22. In la sewing machine comprising a bed, an overhangng arm and head, a curved rotary loop taker; an upper feed dog, means` v for pivotally supporting the same below the plane of said loop taker and at the rear thereof and means for actuating said feed dog.
23. In a sewing machine comprising a bed, a work support, an overhangng arm land head, a curved oscillating needle and complemental stitch forming `mechanism carried by said head including a depending bracket supporting a rotary loop taker; an upper feed dog, a feed dog supporting lever having a pivot carried by said bracket, means for 'vertically adjusting said pivot and means for actuating said feed dog.
24. Ina sewing machine comprising a bed, a work support, an overhangng arm and head, a curved oscillating needle and complementa] stitch forming mechanism carried by said'head including a depending bracket supporting a rotary loop'taker, an upper feed dog, a feed dog supporting lever having a pivotal shaft journalled in said bracket, means -adjustably connecting said feed dog supporting lever to said pivotal shaft including a lrotarily adjustable eccentric and means for actuating said feed dog.
