Description

Oct. 2, 1923. 1,469,410
| DOSTAL ROLL OF ROLLING MILLS Filed Feb. 14. 1921 Patented Get. 2, 1923.
UNITED STATES LEO DOSTAL, 0F KLADNO, CZECHOSLOVAKIA.
ROLL 0F ROLLING MILLS.
Application filed February (GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF, THE ACT OF MARCH To all whom it may concern Be it known that I. lino DosTAn, a citizen of the Republic of Czechoslovakia. and Pesiding at Kiadno, Czechoslovakia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Rolls of Rolling Mills (for which I have filed applications in Austria April 7. 1919, Patent No. 80,819; Germany. April 7, 1919 Patent No. 329,839; England. July 6, 1921); Poland. May ii, 192'); ('zechosloi a! :2. April 15, 1920), of which the following is a specification.
The necks or journals of the rolls of rolling mills are usually made in one piece with the roll body, that is to say. of the same material as the latter. It would. however. be a desirable thing to make the necks of material that is more resistant to frictional wear than the bearing.
Moreover necks cast in one piece with the roll are very liable to break off, especially those of cast iron rolls. and they must be welded on or cast on. with consequent nnreliable Weak places at the weld or joint.
This drawback is obviated by making the necks separate of materials of high tenacity. Hitherto such necks have been fixed in the roll bodies by screwing or shrinking in, but with this kind of fixing the necks become ioose owing to the lack of initial fixing stress.
According to the present invention the necks are fitted with an easy fit into the roll body and the fixing: is effected by means of axial tic'members which by reason of the manner of fixing them in place their length and consequent higher degree of elasticity generate an elastic :1 nd permanent fixing stress.
one embodiment of this invention illustrated by way oi example in the accompanying drawing. in which is shown a longitudh nal section of the improved roll.
The necks or journals 6 are fixed separate into the roll body a, so that the body a and the neck I) can be made of different materials, for instance, the roll body may be made of a chill casting and the neck of wrought steel. The neck may have its qual- 14, 1921. Serial No. 444,931.
3. I921. 41 STAT. L., 1313.)
ity improved or it may be hardened before it is fitted into the roll body, without the en tire roll having. for this reason. to be snbjectcd to the heat treatment. so that stresses due to the hardening cannot arise in the roll body.
The two necks :5 are pressed the roll by means axially into 0? one or more tie'memhers c. The ends oi the tie-members are closed t. 1.] by riveting. shrinking or the like.
By riveting the ticn1en1bers while hot. the other parts being cool. all the parts are drawn together. and un clastir and permanent fixing stress is produced.
The necks F1 are fitted eonically or cylindrira ly into the body a.
A sleeve r may be east into the roll body it for the purpose of providing a better transmission of the pressure.
Having: now described my invention. what I claim as new and desire to secure by Lettors Patent is:--
1. In a roli for a rolling: mill. the ro nbination oi an axially perforated roll body. axially pe forated roil necks separate irom said body. lEHYlll'l i i-tensions titted into the ends o?" the axial perforation of said body and :1 tie rod extending through the nXitil perforations of said necks and the axial perforation of said body. whereby said necks are held firmly in said body.
in :i roll for a rolling! mill. the combination of an axially perforated roll body. axially periornted roll necks separate from Said body. having extensions fitted into the ends of the axial poribration of said body. axiaily perforated sl eves of metal on said extensions. and a tie rod extending through the axial per 'orni ions oi" said necks and said SiUlYtH and the axial perforation oi said body. whereby said necks are held firmly and resiliently in said body.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
INo. LEO DOSTAL. .Vitnesses Dr. Kixincii SUHAJ, Ing. KAREL KC'rnnAN.
