' To all whom it may concern:
' Be it knownthat I, MORDECHAI A. EL- STEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of J ackson and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Syringes, of which the'following is a specification. I I y y invention-relatesto improvements in syringes.
The object of my invention is to provide a syringe of novel construction and which is particularly adapted for use in the vagina and which is provided with novel means for distending the vaginal walls without injury to the same and without pain and inconvenience to the patient and which permits of the free discharge of liquid from the syringe into the vagina. My invention is also adapted for rectal use.
My invention provides further a novel attachment adapted to be fitted on a nozzle of an ordinary syringe and which will effect a distention of the vaginal walls and will hold the latter spaced apart from the nozzle so that liquid may be freely discharged from the latter into the vagina.
My invention provides still further a device of the kind described, which is simple, cheap to make, durable and not liable to get out of order. I
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates my invention Fig. 1 is a view partly in vertical section and partly in side elevation of one form of my improved device, so constructed as to itself form a nozzle.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing my device mounted on the nozzle of a syringe.
Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a cross section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Similar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 3, 1 designates a tubular member, preferably resilient and which may be composed of soft rubber of suflicient thickness to afford the rigidity required for the member 1 to serve as a nozzle of a syringe.
The outer or upper end of the member 1 is closed and theinner or lower endis open and contracted and i3; adapted to have fitted in it a supply tube 2 adaptedl tobe connected by a rubber tube, not shown, with a. water supply or a supply of medicinal liquid. j
The body 1 is. provided with circumferen tially arranged resilient peripheral fingers 3,. preferably integral .with the body Y 1, and

The body 1 intermediate of the fingers 3 is provided with discharge openings 4.
The upper end of the body 1 may be slightly curved as shown.
In the operation of this form of my invention, the body 1 is inserted into the vagina, upon which the latter will be distended and the mucous membrane will be held by the fingers 3 spaced apart from the body 1, so that liquid, medicinal or otherwise, which is discharged through the tube 2 into the bodyl can freely pass into the vagina and against the walls of the latter through the openings 4.
As the fingers 3 are resilient and pliable, they will not injure the membrane or afford annoyance or pain to the patient.
In the form of my invention shown in Fig. 2, the construction is substantially the same as that which is shown in Fig. 1, exceptingthat the tubular body 5 is shorter and can be more flexible than the body 1,
as it is intended to be slipped over the head 6 or a syringe nozzle having the usual stem 7 at the inner end of the head and adapted to have fitted to it a rubber supply tube, not shown.
The body 5 is composed of resilient material such as soft rubber and is provided with circumferentially arranged resilient peripheral fingers 8 corresponding to the fingers 3 already described.
The bodyv 5 is provided with perforations 9 intermediate of the fingers 8 and corre-. sponding in function to the openings 4 already described, and which communicate with circumferentially arranged longitudinal slots 10 provided in the head 6.
The inner open contracted end of the body 5 is adapted to embrace the inner end of the head 6, so as to hold the member on the nozzle.
The operation of the form shown in Figs. 2 and 4, is the same as has been'-.-.described with reference to the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3. I
It will be obvious that, if desired, the body 1 may he slipped over and form an envelope for a nozzle of suitable dimensions and form in the same manner as does the member 5.
I do not limit my invention to the structures shown and described, as many modifications within the scope of the appended claims may be made Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is:
1. In a. syringe, a nozzle having one or more discharge openings, and a resilient tubular member arranged to be fitted on to said nozzle and having circumferentially arranged resilient peripheral fingers, and perforations intermediate or" said fingers communicating with said discharge openings, substantially as set forth.
2. In a syringe, a nozzle having a stem and a head at the outer end of the stem of larger diameter than the stem, the head having longitudinal slots arranged circumferentially, and a resilient tubular member closed at its outer end and adapted to be fitted on to said head and having a contracted inner open end arranged to embrace the inner end of said head, and provided with circumferentially arranged resilient peripheral fingers, and perforations intermediate of said fingers and communicating with said slots, substantially as set forth.
