Beit known that I, 7Wirral-1M J. DENNIS, acitizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Mop Holders, of which the following'is a description.

My invention relates to improvements in mop holders, and more particularly to provide a mop holder adapted to removably clamp or hold a mop, and lwhich will clamp it evenly to compensate for any uneven thickness of said mop. rFhe invention has among its other objects the production of a device of the kind described which is neat and attractive in appearance, simple, convenient, compact, durable, reliable, eiiicient and satisfactory for use wherever found applicable. Many other objects and advantages of the construct-ion herein shown and described will be obvious to those skilled in vthe art from thedisclosure herein given.

`To this end'myv invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, there is shown a mop holder comprising a T-shaped member having a head 1 and a shank 2 at right angles to one another. 'This T-shaped member is preferably made of two mating parts of sheet metal 3 and 4, the top edge lof the head portion 1 of said T being outwardly ared and also ared outwardly along the side edges thereof, so that when the parts 3 and 4 are assembled, there will be formed a groove or recess 5 entirely along the top edge thereof and extending downwardly at the sides as at 6. The shank portion 2 is preferably hollowed out or bent to form a socket to receve the end of a mop handle 7.

The cooperating parts 3 and 4 may be secured together in any suitable manner, but

I have found it highly satisfactory to secure said parts together by forming apertures S in one of the parts, as for instance, in the part 8, and striking up `prongs or projections 9 in the other part 4, said prongs adapted to extend through said lapertures and be clinched over or peened to secure them in place, as shown in Fig. 4. A boss 10 may be formed on one of the members of the shank port-ion, adapted to non-rotatably hold a nut 11 against turning, said nut cooperating with a bolt 12 passing through the handle 7. A nail 13 may also be inserted into the handle 7 to further provide against wabbling or other relative movement between the handle or mop parts.

At the free ends of each of the shank portion parts there are provided wings 13 eX- tending laterally to the shank portion and formed so that when the parts are secured together in their assembled relation, passage-ways 14 will be formed thereat. Bolts or other fastening means 15 may be used for securing the mating extensive parts 13 together to preventy their spreading.

In order to clamp the rag or mop to the mop holder, there is provided a substantially U-shaped member having parallel legs 16 connected together at one end by a transverse part 17. This U-shaped member is adapted to lie, in the grooves' and 6, as shown in the drawings, and the free ends of the legs 16 are adapted to be inserted and slidably through the passage-ways 14, the outer ends of the legs 16 being screw threaded as at 18 and adapted to cooperate with wing nuts 19 or the like, whereby the U- shaped member may be adjustably moved toward the groove to clamp the mop thereinto. A bead 20, or any suitable or equivalent means, may be formed at the eXtreme ends of the legs 16 to prevent their accidental removal from the holder and limiting the movement of the U-shaped member in one direction.

It will be noted that the mop or rag held between the groove and the portion 17 of the movable member will be clamped evenly at all points thereof to compensate for any uneven thickness of the mop, because each of the legs has an individual tightening member 19 therefor, so that the thinner portion of the* mop to one side of the center line of the head will be clamped as tightly between the groove and the member 17, as the thicker portion on the other side of the center because one leg 16 may be moved a further distance through the passageways 14 than the other leg. Thus any unevenness in thickness of the mop will be compensated for and enable the mop to be used more eiliciently.

Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that Various immaterial modilications may be made inthe saine without departing from the spirit of .my invention; hence I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact form, construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described, oruses mentioned.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A mop holder comprising a T shaped member havinga groove along its topedge and adapted to have a mop handle secured to its shank portion, and also provided with lateral extensions integral with said shank portion jand spaced from said top portion, a U-sh-aped, spring wire member adapted to lie in said groove, the free ends of its legs Vbeing` threaded and freely slidably insertable through said lateral extensions, and nuts separately vengageable with each of said threaded ends to abut against said extensions and draw said U-shaped lmember toward the other member and clamp a mo between it and said groove 2. A mop holder comprising a pair of connected sheet metal parts of substantially the same coniguration, each of said parts being outwardly flanged at one :edge to Jform a groove-therebetween, :a socket formed between ;said parts to receive the end of a mop handle, said parts being extended laterally on opposite sides of said socket and formed into a pair of apertured wings, a member cooperable with said groove and having portions slidable through said apertured wings, and means to move adjustably said last mentioned member relatively to said irst mentioned parts to clamp a mop in said groove.

3. A mop holder comprising T-shaped body formed of a pairof connected sheet metal T-shaped members, each flanged along an edge to form a groove along the top edge of the T when said members are superimposed on one another and having a shank portion adapted to have a mop handle secured therebetween, said members also provided with lateral extensions integral with said shank portion, said extensions spaced `from said grooved edge of the body and each provided with an aperture, a U-shaped spring wire member adapted to lie in said groove and having the free ends .of its legs threaded and freely slidable through .the openings of sai-d lateral extensions, and nuts individually engageable `with each of said threaded ends to abut against said extensions and draw said U-shaped member toward the T-.shaped body and clamp -a mop between it and said groove.
