DENTAL SUCTION PLATE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JACOB Perm, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dental Suction Plates; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to dental suctionplates.

In a patent granted to me October 10, 1911, No. 1,005,296 there is illustrated a dental suction-plate having a plurality of suction-cups permanently secured to the plate, said suction cups being formed of light rubber, and being connected integrally to the plate by a neck-portion of rubber. In

a plate of this character, where the cups are connected permanently to the suction-plate,

if one of the cups wears out or loses its suction ability it is necessary to obtain an entirely new plate, as all of the cups are connected integrally to the plate, and it is practically impossible to add a new cup to the plate.

The object of my present invention is to provide for the supporting of the suctioncups directly on the dental-plate. each cup being mounted thereon individually so that if it wears out another may be substituted without the services of a dentist, so that by having a supply of these cups on hand the owner of the plate may himself insert a new one whenever it is necessary.

In the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a dental-plate showing my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a plan View of one of the suction cups; Fig. 3 .is asection on the line 3-3, Fig. 2; Fig. 4C is a section on the line 44t, Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5, Fig. 3 looking in the direction of the arrows; and Fig. 6 is an enlarged cross-section of the dental-plate showing the cups in different positions therein.

In the drawing, the numeral 2 designates a dental-plate with the teeth 3 secured therein. Formed in the plate are the seats or recesses 4: which are preferably oblong in shape corresponding to the shape of the cups 5, and said seats are formed with the under-cut port-ions forming the grooves 6.

Any desired number of these seats may be formed, according to the number of suctioncups required, and the arrangement may be varied according to conditions.

The suction-elements 5 are double, in the sense that there are upper and lower cup sections, the upper cup-sectlon 7 being somewhat thinner than. the lower section 8.

formed therein, so that in case the upper and lower sections of the cup are brought into contact with each other they will not stick or adhere, due to the admission of air between the faces of the corrugations 9.

The lower cup-sections are inserted in the seats 4 by compressing the cup slightly, as shown in the left of Fig. 6, so as to insert it in the opening of the seat 4:, and when therein the cup is allowed to expand to the position indicated in the center and right of Fig. 6, the lower cup-section fitting down in the undercut grooves 6 of the seat so as to fit snugly therein, and in this manner the cups are securely held in position on the plate by suction.

In this manner I provide not only for the holding of the plate to the roof of the month by suction-cups, but the lower sections of the cups also act to connect the cups to the plate, and in this way Iam able to dispense with the use of rivets, cement on other fastening means for securing the cups to the plate.

If for any reason, due to pressure, the upper and lower sections of the cup should come in contact they will not adhere, dueto the air spaces afforded by the corrugations 9 on the lower cup-section.
