RUSSELI J. PARK, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
ARTIFICIAL TOOTH.
Application filed January 10, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUssnLL J. PARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Artificial Teeth, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in artificial teeth.
One object of the invention is to provide an artificial tooth so formed at its cervical end that it will be engaged and securely held in place by the material of the plate to which the tooth is attached.
Another object of the invention is to provide an artificial tooth whose cervical end is so formed that not only will it be readily engaged by the material of the plate but will form a nice fit therewith so that the teeth may be readily cl ansed and deposits of food or other foreign matter may be easily removed.
Another object of the invention is to provide an artificial tooth which, in use, will not be liable to be broken loose from the plate but which will be securely held thereto without the use of pins or other fastenin means.
Vith the above and other objects in view the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a side view of a plate provided with teeth embodying the invention and shown partially in section.
Fig. 2 is an anterior view of a front view.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation, and
Fig. & is a rear View.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 1 designates a plate which is preferably formed of rubber. It is to be understood that the teeth are to be attached to this plate while the plate is in plastic state and before it has hardened. The numeral 2 designates a frontal tooth. The cervical end of this tooth is of considerable thickness and is formed with the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 9, 1921.
Serial No. 436,342.
It is obvious that when in use the stress of the bite will be sustained by the shoulder 23, which, acting in a direct line against the plate, will render it practically impossible to break the anchorage of the tooth to the plate.
What I claim is 2- 1. An artificial tooth whose cervical end is formed with an abrupt shoulder and an upwardly extending front portion and an undercut projection formed integrally with and following the contour of the cervical end of the tooth.
2. A tooth, the posterior end of the cervical end of which is formed with a projection, said projection being undercut all the way around, forming a groove into which the material of the plate will flow when in plastic state and an abutting shoulder following the contour of said groove and forming the outer side thereof, against which the material of the plate abuts.
3. An artificial tooth, the posterior side of the cervical end of which is formed with a shoulder at substantial right angles to the line of bite, the anterior portion of the tooth being extended up above said shoulder, the posterior side of said cervical end being also formed With a projection following the con- In testimony whereof I have signed my tour of said side and being undercut to proname to this specification in the presence of vide a groove into which the material of tWo subscribing Witnesses. the plate runs When in plastic state, said ma- RUSSELL J. groove whereby the tooth is securely held in E. V. HARDWAY, position when said material hardens. WM. A. GATHEY.
