Be it known that CHRrs FREEMAN, a subject of the King of England, residing at Blaine, in the county of Whatcom and State of Washing-ton, has invented new and useful improvements in Rainproof Garments, of which the following is a specification.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple and convenient rain proof working garment suitable for use by mechanics, fishermen, sailors and others as a substi tute for the comparatively awkward and bundlesome slickers ordinarily employed and yet capable of effectively excluding rain and wind and leaving the wearer unhampered and free as to movements; and with this object in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a general view of a garment constructed in accordance with the invention.

The garment which is of one piece form or construction consists essentially of they body portion 10 and the trousers portion 11 which are separated only at the rear on a waist line 12 over which the body section or member is extended to form an overhanging [lap 13, and the movable or displaceable rear fold 14 of which the upper edge is free and is adapted to be supported beneath the overhanging flap 13 by suspender elements 15. The trousers adjacent their points of connection to the body portion of the garment are provided with the bellows or accordion placket closing elements 16 designed to permit freedom of movement of the back fold while normally occupying a folded position to permit of the arrangement of the edges of thel placket in fastened relation as by 17 or the equivalent thereof.

The suspender element iconsists of lthe shoulder straps 15ZL eXtending from the shoulders of the garment to a point of intersection at 15b and stitched to the body or waist portion of the garment, together with elastic or eXtensible tabs l5@ extending from the intersection of the straps and adapted to be secured by buttons or like fasteners to the upper edge of the rear displaceable fold of the trousers member of the garment.

The front of the garment is open throughout the body portion of the trousers member and the waist member with the overlapping edges thereof provided with fastening means 17 of any ysuitable form while the joint thus formed is further protected by a storm flap 18 designed to extend eXteriorly over the joint and be held in place by fas tening means 19, consisting of either buttons, snaps or any preferred equivalent thereof.

Obviously the wrist and ankle portions of the arm and leg members of the garment may be provided with means for contractingI them and thereby excluding moisture or may be left free according to the specific use to which the garment is to be applied,y

any well known means for this purpose being applicable and forming no essential part of the present invention. ln the saine way the neck portion 19 may be closed by an extension of the means employed in connection with the front of the garment to provide for a tight fit around the throat of the wearer to exclude moisture at that point.

From the above description it will be obvious that as the garment is provided with independent leg and arm members and a one piece construction of the waist and trousers, having only the front opening protected by a storm flap and the rear opening protected by an overhanging flap of the waist or body, the access of rain or wind to the interior of the garment is precluded, and by the use of well known means for contracting the ankle and wrist portions of the leg and arm elements it may even be possible for wading in water without exposing the wearer to Contact therewith, in the event that the feet as in the ordinary practice are suitably protected by rubber boots or the like.
