PATEN KITCHEN TOOL.
To all lwhom 'it' may con@ Be it known that 'I e citizen of. the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los ngeles and. State of California, have invented new and useful Improvement-s in Kitchen Tools, of which the following is a specification. -My invention. relates to a combination tool, particularly adapted for household use, the principal objects of my invention be.- ing to provide a relatively simple, strong am.' Y HARRY Saroonnnr., i
and durable toolin which is combined a number of tools and and cheaply producd. j
ythe positions they y strip4 metalthat is bent devices that are frese about a household, e a convenient, comthat may be easily quently required for u and further to provid pact combination tool -With the foregoing and vother objects in view', my invention consists incertain novel features of construction and parts that will behereinafter scribed and claimed and illustra-ted in the accompanying drawings, inY which:
'e Figure 1 is a plan view tool of my improved construction kwith dotted lines showing parts of said toolfin occupy when the tool is 1n use;
Fig. 2 is an edge-'view of the tool, and
f 4which view is taken looking in thek direction indicated by the arrow 2 in Fig. 1;
ig. `3 is an edge view of the tool, and which view is takenlooking in the direction indicated by the arrow 3 in -F ig. 1 ;v an-d Fig. a is a plan view of the forward end of the tool and showing parts thereof shifted into position to providev pinchers or nippers.`
uction of my improved comd from a single piece of double to form parallel portions that are positioned ad" preferably plates handle at apart in such as penings or rivet,
Application filed :rune 27, 1921.
arrangement of more fully deof a combinationr that is seated in the 12, and thek parallel portions Serial No. 480,573.
such as 14, is a shank which is formed into a prong or puncturing member 16. This prong or puncturing member may be utilized for puncturing holes in thin sheet material, such -as paper, metal, or leather, and whilenot in .use the shank 15 occupies a position within the elon gated opening in the handleto which it is connected. ivotally connected to a pin orrivet `17 that is seated inthe other handle isa corkscrew 18 which, when not in use,'occupies a position within the opening 13 in the handle to which it is connected.
he inner edges of the parallelportions 'of the yhandles are cut away at their forward ends to e provide oppositely. inclined faces 19,` -the transversely corrugated, as designated by 20, in orderto orm gripping edgeswhen the tool is utilized for engaging and sc rewin,j
a preserving jar or can.
Positioned between the forward portions f th ersfof handle 11 is the` rear yend of a plate 21 with which is integrali a yforwardly projecting maybe vutilized for opening thin sheet-metal cans, and formed integral with and projecting outwardly from the rear portion of said plate 21 is a` hook 23 that Vmay be utilized for removing the metal closure caps of bottles.
Pivotally connected t forward portion of of ra curved arm 25.y the parallel portions handle 11 is one end that extends between of handle '10, and Iformed in said curved arm is a row of apertures 26.y Pivotally mounted on a pin or rivet 27. that is seated in thek side of handle 10 near d, is the rear end of an arm 28 that is provided at its forward end vi"v oppositely arranged pins 29, which is adapted to engage lin one of the apertures in curved arm 25. These pins 29 perform the functions of fulcrums for the when the latter is sy or away from the handle 11 in performing certain operations with the to the4 outer end of ol, and thereo' a pin or rivet 24- 1 in shown and of one of fore they serve for pivotally sustaining each ofthe handles or jaws irrespective of their relative positions. i n
Pivotally mounted on pins that are seated near the central portions of the handles l0 and ll, are the ends of links 3l, the opposite ends thereof nected to each other by a pin or rivet 31, said links forming a flexible connection between the intermediate portions of the handles, andspacing the handles apart from end' tov end, as indicated by dottel lines in Fig'. l. j 'v By engaging one of the pins 29 in one of the apertures Q6 of curved arm 2:3, the rear portions of the handles may be moved toward or away from each other so as to correspondingly move the forward portions of said handles toward or away from each other after themanner'of the jaws of', a pair of pliers or nippers, and the width or space between the forward portions of said arms, or the parts that serve as. jaws, may be regulated by proper adjustment of the pins 29 in the apertures QG..
@By proper adjustment and. manipulation my improved con'ibination' tool lmay beuti lized kas a punch or puncturing device, a cork puller, a can opener, a bottle-cap remover, a nut cracker, as pliers or pinchers for engaging and handling various objects, for screwing or unscrewing the tops of pre serving cans andthe like, and by manually engaging the forward ends of the handles and* spreading the rear ends apart, the tool may be utilized for'handling relatively large objects, such as pieces'of coal, briquets, and the like. f
A combination tool of.` my improved construction is relatively simple, may be easily and cheaply produced, is very compact, and combines in a single structure a number of tools and devices that are generally useful about ahousehold.
.it willr be understood that minor changes in size, form, and construction of the various parts of my improved combination tool may be made and substituted for 'those heredescribed without departing;
from the spirit of my invention, the scope ofwhich is set forth in the appended claims.
.l claim as my invention:
l. 1n a combination tool, a pair of han#y dles, links pivotally connecting the intermediater portions of said handles, a curved arm pivotally connected tothe forward portion said handles and extending being pivotallyy c`on-y tions to form a pivotal connection,
through the forward portion of the other handle, said curved arm being provided with apertures, and means on the handle through which said curved arm extends for engaging in one of the apertures in said curved arm to form a pivotal connection.
2. In a combination tool, a pair of handles, a curved arm pivotally connected to the forward endy of one of said handles, said curved arm being provided with a row of perforations, 'means on the opposite handle for engaging any one of said perforaand the inner edges of the forward portions of said handles being corrugated.
3. ln a combination tool, a pair of handles, a curved arm pivotally connected to the forward end of one of said handles, said curved arm being provided with ay row of perforations, means on the opposite handle for engaging any one of said perforations to form a pivotal connection, the inner edges of the forward portions of said handles be-` ing corrugated, and pivotally connected links connecting the intermediate portions 'of said handles.
Il. A tool comprisingaa pair of handles, an arm pivotally connected `to one of the handles, means whereby one endof the other handle is adjustably connected to saidarm, and links pivoted toeachother and to the handles.
5. A tool comprising a pair of handles, anL arm pivotally connected to ons end of one handle, said arm being provided with a row of perforations, means on the other handle for engaging any one of said perforations to form a pivotal connection between the handles, and pivotally connected links connecting the intermediate portions of said handles.
6. tool comprising jaws, a link connectionbetween thejaws whereby the spaced position of the jaws from end to end can be varied, and means for pivotally sustaining each of the jaws irrespective of their relative positions.
7. A tool comprising jaws, a connection between the jaws whereby the spaced position of the jaws from end to en d can be varied, and means for pivotally sustaining the jaws irrespective of their relative positions.
ln testimony whereof I have signed my naine to this specification.
