Referring more in detail to the drawings which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts through the several views, 10 indicates the central posts which are arranged in pairs and spaced from one another. The posts of each pair are also spaced apart and have plates 11 positioned therebetween and extended vertically. These plates 11 serve as the bearing plates or bearing carrying plates within which the bearings l2 rollers 13 are mounted. These rollers 13 have reduced spindles 14 formed on their opposite ends and projecting into the bearings 12. Suitable springs 15 are provided between the posts 10 of each pair of central posts, to resiliently toward one another in order. that the pressure rollers 13 may be resiliently forced together to serve the purpose for which they are intended, as will be readily understood by parties familiar with this art.
Secured upon the outer face of the opposite or corresponding posts 10 of each pair, is a transversely extended rectangular frame 16, as will be readily understood by referring to the drawings. Guide rollers or idlers 19 are of less diameter than the pressure rollers 13. The rolls 19 are so positioned that the upperrun of the belt 20 may be in a substantially horizontal plane and only raised slightly in its transverse central portion, at which point it passes between the pressure rollers and bears upon the upper face of the lower pressure roller, as shown clearly in Figure 4 of the drawings. This belt 20 may move in either direction, as may be desired, during operation of the device. A drain board 21 is provided beneath one end of the belt 20 in any suitable manner. Said drain board 21 may be formed as a part of the frame 16 or may be rigidly connected with the post 10, as desired. It will be understood that the drain board 21 is preferably spaced beneath the lower run of the belt 20 a suitable distance, so as not to interfere with the operation of the belt 20. The

For cooperation with the feeding belt 20, feeding the articles to the pressure rollers 13,- we have provided a pair of feed rollers 25, which although shown as being longitudinally corrugated are not necessarily so constructed and which are spaced outwardly from or 'in front of the said feed rollers 25 being arranged so that while one roller 25 is raised, the other roller may be resting upon the upper run of the belt 20 for cooperation. therewith. The feed rollers 25 have reduced spindles or hub portions 26 at theirop posite ends mounted in suitable bearings in blocks 27 which are in turn fitted movably in the vertically'movable carrier frames 28. The bearing blocks 27 are vertically movable in the carrier frames 28, as clearly shown in the drawings, particularly Figures 6, 7 and 8 and the springs 29 are provided for yieldingly forcing them with the feed rollers 25 toward the lower ends of the carriers 28. Suitable tensioning or regulating screws 30 are threaded in the upper ends of the carriers 28 to regulate 29. The carriers pressure rollers 13,
pair at the same side of the machine and the rock arms are pivotally mounted at intermediate points on the upper ends of the plates 11, as shown at 33. It will be seen by referring to the drawings, particularly Figure 2, that when one pair of carriers 28 in its lowermost position to'permit the feed roller 25 to yieldingly rest on the feed belt and cooperate therewith, the other pair of carriers 28 is in its raised position to elevate the feed roller carried thereby. It will also be seen by referring to the drawings that a pair of upstanding guard plates 34cis provided to prevent the articles from passing under the ends of the feed rollers 25. The guard plates 34 are arranged at the inner faces of the brackets 17 adjacent the outer sides of the pockets 23'and are preferably extended slightly toward the rollers 25 for hich'they are provided.
As herein above indicated the feed rollers are adapted to receiverot-ary motion from the feed belt which is preferably provided with an adhesive surface such as of rubber or the like, similar to that provided for the pressure rollers, and free to rotate in either direction of movement of the upper run of the feed belt which is designed to receive motion from the pressure rollers which may be driven by any suitable power derived from any convenient source but not illustrated otherwise than that the spindles of the pressure rollers are extended beyond the frame and broken away as indicated in Figures 2, 3 and 5.
It will further be noted that the feed rollers are adapted for alternate use and bear upon unsupported intermediate portions of the feed belt between the terminal supporting rolls of the belt and the pressure rollers which constitute the driving element of the apparatus, each feed roller being designed for use in advance of the pressure rollers or in contact with the advance portion of the feed belt which is moving toward the pressure rollers, and owing to the unsupported characteristic of the belt at the point where the feed rollers come iii contact therewith, the hand of an operator passing inadvertently between the feed roller and the belt in placing an article-on the belt is not subject to crushing or any injury, by reason of the fact that the belt is adapted to yield downwardly or in a direction perpendicular to its plane as will be obvious by reference to the drawings and particularly Figure 4 thereof.
Moreover, as above indicated, the opposite A connecting feed rollers are yieldingly held in contact with the surface of the feed belt by means of the springs 29 which are adapted to be tensioned by means of the adjusting screws 30, but the carrier which supports the feed roller which is arranged in operative position should be locked in its depressed position, and for this purpose we employ a locking means generally designated at and consisting of latches '36 of which tapered heads 37 are adapted for engagement with sockets or notches 38 in the carriers and are yieldingly held in engaging relation with said sockets by springs 39 coiled as illustrated upon the stub spindles 40 upon which the arms or shanks of the latches are mounted. Latches 36 have grips or handles 41 projecting outward through slots 42 in brackets 17, and preferably the opposite latches, which'are designed to secure the complemental carrier blocks supporting each feed roller, are connected by a transverse brace rod 43 to insure cooperative action of the opposite latch members and enable the operator to actuate both latches from one side of the machine.
It will further be noted that the lower run of the feed belt bears against the under side of the lower pressure roller 13 and that suitable tensioning means are provided for the supporting rollers 19 of the feed belt,
said tensioning means in the construction illustrated consisting of adjusting bolts 44 threaded in suitable guides 45 which receives the extremities of the spindles 18 which carry the guide rollers 19. (See Figure 4).
It will further be observed that where as in certain of the principal features the apparatus herein disclosed follows the lines of the conventional or typical forms of wrin er com risin 'su ortin 1! posts, frames mounted on said supportingv posts, pressure rollers mounted in said supporting posts, arms extended from said frames in pairs, guide rollers mounted in said arms, a feed belt extended around said guide rollers and passing said pressure rollers to cooperate therewith, feed rollers mounted above said feed belt, means connecting said. feed rollers to retain one of the said rollers in operative position with relation to saidbelt and the remaining feed roller in inoperative position, and locking means for said feed'rollers. r v
2. A'wringer comprising pairs of main supporting members, pressure rollers eX- tended between said pairs of main supporting members, mounting means for said pressure rollers, arms extended from said main supporting members in pairs, guide rollers mounted in said pairs of arms, a feed belt extended around the guide rollers and passing between said pressure rollers to feed articles to the same and carry articles away from said pressure rollers, feed rollers mounted for cooperation with said feed belt, supporting and mounting members for the feed rollers connecting means for said last mentioned members, means for connecting the supporting and mounting means for said feed rollers to elevate one feed roller while the other feed roller is in its lower operative position. and means for locking said feed rollers in set position.

A wringer comprising main supporting members, pressure rollers mounted in' said main supporting members, bearing arms extended from said main supporting members in pairs, mounting means for said bearing arms, guard members for the ends of said pressure rollers carried by said supporting arms, a feed belt mounted for movement between Said pressure rollers and cooperating therewith, supporting means for said feed belt carried by said arms, feed rollers above said feed belt and parallel with said pressure rollers, mounting means for said feed rollers movable vertically in said arms to raise and lower said feed rollers, pressure regulating means for said feed rollers, guards for the ends of said feed rollers carried by said arms, means connecting said mounting means for the feed rollers to retain one feed roller in elevated position when the remaining feed roller is in lowered operative position, and means for locking said feed rollers in set position.
4. A wringer comprising main supporting members, pressure rollersmounted in said main supporting members, tension reg ulating means for said pressure rollers, a feed belt movable between said pressure rollers, mounting means for said belt extending in opposite directions from said mai-n supporting members, means for attaching said mounting means to said main supporting members, a pair of corrugated feed rollers adapted to be adjusted vertically above the feed belt to cooperate therewith in feeding articles to said pressure rollers, means for retaining one of said feed rollers in operative position while the remaining feed roller is elevated to inoperative position, tension regulating means for said feed rollers, and means for locking said feed rollers in set position.
5. A wringer having, in combination with the pressure rollers, a feed belt for movement toward the meeting line of the pressure rollers and a feed roller in advance of the pressure rollers and bearing upon an intermediate portion of the feed belt, carrier frames arranged at opposite sides of the feed belt for movement relatively thereto, spring actuated bearing blocks mounted in said carrier frames for supporting the feed roller, and means for locking the carrier frames in their operative position.

A wringer having, in combination with the pressure rollers, a feed belt for movementtoward the meeting line of the pressure rollers and a feed roller in advance of the pressure rollers and bearing upon an intermediate portion of the feed belt, carrier frames arranged at opposite sides of the feed belt for movement in a plane perpendicular thereto, spring actuated bearing blocks mounted in said carrier frames for supporting the feed roller, and means for locking the carrier frames in their operative positions, and consisting of pivotal spring actuated latches, transversely connected for simultaneous operation.
