UNITED STATES HARLEY R. SELBY. OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
PUMPING J ACK.
Application led February 10, 1922. Serial No. 535,479.
T o all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARLEY R. SELBY,
a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pumping Jacks, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in pumping jacks.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved pumping jack which is very compact in structure and one which may be driven from a motor of small horse power.
Further objects1 and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claim.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a .part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is'an elevation of a structure embodying the features of my invention, parts of the gear box and pump rod being broken away to illustrate structural details.
Fig. II is a detail vertical section on a line corresponding to line 2 2 of Figs. I
and III.
Fig. III is a detail view partially in horizontal section on a line corresponding to line 3 3 of Fig. II.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the littlearrows at the ends of the section lines. f
Referring to the drawing, 1 represents a pump rod to be driven and 2 an electric motor. I provide a gear box 3 having a removable front side wall 4. This` gear boX is provided with bearings 5 and 6 for the rod. The driving or motor shaft 7 projects into the gear boX, being supported therein by a bearing 8. This drivin shaft is provided with a worm gear 9. driving gear 10 is mounted on the stub shaft 11 carried by the rear wall of the housing, so that the gear is supported to mesh with the worm 9 and in a spaced relation to the pump rod 1.
A yoke 12 is mounted on the pump rod, it being adjustably secured thereto by the set screw 13. This yoke carries the slide bar 14 which is supported at right angles to the pump rod. The slide 15 is mountedon this rod 14- and is secured to the wrist pin 16 on the gear 10, so that as the gear revolves the pump rod is reciprocated. This provides a very simple and compact arrangement of parts and the power is delivered from the motor. i,
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-` ters Patent, is:
In a pumping ack, the combination with a `ear box, of a pump rod reciprocating through said gear boX, said gear boX being provided with bearings for said pump rod,y a driving vshaft disposed in the bottom of said gear boX and provided with a worm, a driven gear mounted on the side of said gear box in a spaced relation to said pump rod to coact with said worm, a yokemounted on said pump vrod at the side of said driven gear and provided with a slide bar disposed at right angles to the pump rod, a. slide on said slide bar, and a wrist pin on said driven gear connected to said slide.
In witness whereof,I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
