This invention relates to'combination articles of furniture, and the primary object ofthe invention is to provide a combined ironing and clothes chest, which when in its folded or' collapsed position may be used as an ordinary table if so desired, the device being so constructed as to present a pleasing-and novel appearance to the eye.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved ironing table embodying a cover and arranged to normally house the ironing boards, and the clothes basket `for receiving the ironed clothes and for overlying the upper surface of the Work top of the table.

A further object of the invention is to provide a novel means for arranging the ironing boards on the work top, so that the same can be conveniently interiitted to permit of folding of the cover thereover.

A further object of the invention is 'to provide an improved combined clothes chest and ironing board comprising a body having a plurality of doors or compartments therein for receiving` the soiled `or ironed clothes, a Work top, a pivoted cover for overlying the work top, a pair of ironing boards carried bythe Worlr top and adapted to be enclosed by the cover, and a collapsible tray or basket for supporting the clothes after or during. the ironing process.

A still further objectofthe invention is to provide a novel ineans for -attaching the boards to the Worlrtop so as to permit the boards to be swung at any angle, and so as to prevent the tipping of the boards duiii'ig the ironing process.

A still further obj ect of the invention is to provide an improved 'combined clothes chest and ironing table of the above character, which is durable and eiiicientin use, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one which can be placedupon the market at a reasonable cost. f

l/Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as Will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustratedin theaccompanyin'g drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which drawings:

Each of the boards 16 and 17 are held in position by means of bolts 22 and 23 respectively. The bolts 22 and 23 form pivots on which the boards are adapted to rotate, so that the boards 16 and 17 .can extend'at any angle from the work top `which may be dev sired.- .As clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawings, the ends of the bolts are counter sunk so as to not interfere with the working surface of the work boards 18 and 19 of the ironing boards 16 and 17. v

'A cover 25 is provided for the ironing boards, and this cover includes a top 26 and depending transverse ledges 27 and longitudinal front and rearledges 28. The front ledge 28 may be provided with suitable handies 29. The top 26 and the lledges 27 and 28 form a complete housing for the ironing boards and at the same time gives an-'ornamental appearance to the chest as a whole, and a casual observation of the chest does not give the impression that the same is for work, such as ironing and thelike. lin order to form a support for the clothes being ironed or to form a. rest for the clothes directly after they have been ironed, a tray 30 is provided. This tray 30 consists of longitudinally extending slats 31, which are held in spaced relation by spacerl blocks 32. Transverse cleats 33 are also provided for slats in their correct position. As clearly shown in Figures 1` and 3 of the drawings the tray BO'is pivotally connected at its inner edge to the rear longitudinally extending ledge 28 by means of suitable hinges 34.- ln order to hold the tray in an angular position during the ironing process, flexibleV supporting cablesV or ropes V35 are provided. These ropes or flexible supports 'have their upper endsknotted, as at 36 and secured in suitable blocks 37 secured to the inner surface of the top 26 of thevcover 25. The fiexible supports or ropes 35 are knotted as at 38 intermediate their ends, which form the means for supporting the tray in its angular position, and it can be seen that the tray 30 is adapted to assume an angle of substantially 45O in relation to the work top 14. The lower end of the ropes or supportingmembers 35 may be secured to the work top 14. f

The tray 30 is also adapted to be swung in close parallel relation to the pocket 26 when in its folded position as clearly shown Figure2 of the drawings.

ln use of the improved cabinet, it can be seen that the lower portion thereof is particularly adaptedfto receive clothes either before or after being ironed, and when the cover is in its closed position it also can he used as a table. When it is desired to iron the clothes, it merely necessary to raise the cover to theJ position shown in Fig ure 3 of the drawings, and the tray 30 will automatically assume the position as shown in Figure 3 or if the tray sticks the same may be pulled vout to this position. The clothes can then be placed upon the work top 14, and the boards 16 and 17 are moved to any desired angle which maybe best suited to the person who is ironing the clothes, and the clothes are laid on the board in the ordinary manner. After the clothes have beenironed the same may be placed on the tray 30 where they can be afterward removed.

As shown a removable shelf 7 is provided for. the lower portion of the chest carried upon suitable cleats 8 Aprovided for that purpose.

The chest forms an exceptionally simple and convenient mea-ns for lhandling clothes and is anadded convenience to the household.

Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention; but,

l claim:

1. A clothes chest including a work top, a cover vfor housing the work top, and a hinged tray carried by the top and adapted to extend at an angle to the work top when in its operative extended position. l

2. A combined 'roning and clothes cabinet comprising a chest including a work top having compartments therein arranged below the work top, a cover carried by the work top arranged to overlie the same, a tray liingedlyl secured at its inner longitudinal edge to the work top, and flexible guys secured to the cover of thework top and the tray for holding the saine at an angle to the work top and cover. 1 y
