BROODER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 4, 1920.
Application filed October 16, 1917. Serial No. 196,818.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES H. LAN- nnxnnnonn, a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Brooders,.of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain improve ments .in brooder stoves of the type employing coal fuel and in which the draft is automatically regulated.
One object of my invention is to improve a stove of this type by locating a damper box between the top of the stove and the flue pipe leading to the chimney and above the hover.
A further object of the invention is to design the stove and hover so that the stove can be charged with coal without removing or elevating the hover.
These objects I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved brooder stove;
Fig. 2 is a side view of the stove, showing the hover in section; I
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the stove, showing the hover in dotted lines;
Fig. 4 is a view in perspective of the damper box;
Fig. 5 is a sectional view illustrating the damper box partially opened; and
Fig. 6 is a detached perspective View of the damper.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is the base portion of the stove in which is located the ash pit. which is directly below the grate, not shown. 2 is the fire pot section and 3 is the combustion chamber section having a single opening at the top surrounded by a collar 20. 5 is the ash pit door and 6 is the draft door arranged to control the opening communicating with the ash pit under the grate. At the front of the combustion chamber section 3 is an extension 7 arranged at an angle, as shown in Fig. 2, and mounted on this extension is a fire door 7, on the opening of which coal can be fed to the-fire box.
22 is the conical hover, which rests on the upper edge of the section In the hover is an opening 23 through which projects the door 7. By this construction, the door can be opened and the stove charged with coal without elevating the hover, and,
as the projection 7 fits the hover very little heat can escape at this point.
Extending from the side of the base 1 is an arm 8, which supports a thermostatic regulating device operatively with the draft door 6. In the present instance, the arm carries two thermostatic elements 12 and a lever 13, which is fulcrumed at its outer end to an arm through a bolt, which has a wing nut 15 thereon. This lever is connected to the thermostatic elements and its free end engages the under side of the draft door 6, which is mounted on an extension 11 and is hinged to said extension at its lower edge. The draft door is connected to a damper 10 through a rod 9 and the damper is located in the damper box 4 mounted on the top of the stove, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. Vhen the thermostat opens the draft door, it closes the dam per, and when it closes the draft door, 1t opens the damper.
As hereinbefore stated, the damper 1S p votally mounted in the damper box 4, whlch is .cast in two parts 16 and 17, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, which parts have abutting lugs 18 at the sides, and securing bolts pass through openings in these lugs. The diameter of the box is enlarged at each end connected enlargement fits over the pipe collar 20 on the upper end of the combustion chamber section of the stove and the upper enlargement receives a flue pipe, the pipe resting on the shoulder 19, as shown in Fig. 3.
It is essential in this type of stove that there shall be as few projecting parts as possible and the elements above the stove proper should be so shaped as not to interfere with the vertical movement of the hover 22. This damper box can be attached to any stove of this type, and the damper can be readily coupled to'the draft door.
I claim:
The combination in a brooder, of a stove; a vertically movable hover surrounding said stove, said hover having an opening disposed therein; a fuel chute extending at an .angle from the stove and having its outer CHARLES ll. LANDENBERGER.
