THOMAS YEOMANS, 0F MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA,
ASSIGNOR T0 UCAN SPECIALTIES CORPORATION, OF NEW YORK. N. YQA CDRPORATION OF NEW YORK.
HAIR-CUTTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2, 1920.
Application filed February 10, 1917. Serial No. 147,968.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, Tnomas Ynonaivs, a subject of the King of England, residing at 201- St. James street, cit of lllontrcal, Provinee of Quebec, Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvenicnts in Hair-Cutting Devices. of which the followin is a specification.
[y invention relates to vices.
The object of my invcntion to provide a construction embodying a comb, a pair of blades and means for holding the blades rigidly to the sides of the comb so that there is uo nuivemcnt of the blades. with relation to the comb, cxceptthat the blades ma he slid easily longitudinally of the comb when desired. More specifically, n object of the invention is to provide an easily removable cap on the bladeholder and extending over the top of the blades and to provide coiiperating means on the cap and holder, whereby the cap is securely hold in position over the blades by frictional contact of interlocking parts.
My invention consists of the construction. combination and arrangement of parts, as herein illustrated, described and claimed.
in the accompanying drawings forming part .hereof, I have illustrated a form of embodiment of my invention, in which drawings similar reference characters designate corresponding parts. and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation with the moved;
Fin; 3 a vertical section, taken approximately on line 3-3 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow;
Fig. 4 a, perspective of the cap; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective of the blade-holder.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the comb of common and ordinary constructiou. Slidably disposed upon the comb is a blade-holdor l1:l\'ill,'l' a body formed with depending" sidewalls 3, the lower edges oi which are arranged to engage the blades 6 and maintain them against the teeth of the comb on opposite sides and the body of which holder engages the upper edge of the back of the comb. intermediate of the body portion 2 and the lower (alges of the depending side-walls 3. outwardly flared or erimped portions 4 are formed in the hair cutting decap re Walls 3, so as to leave spaces between the sides of the comb and the inner surfaces of the sidewalls Disposed through the slot 5 of the bladc-holder are the usual blades 6, having the usual cover strips 7, which latter abut the lower 'alls ol' the slots 5 and limit the movement of the blades downward and also Form a hearing for a cover cap 8, so that, the blades are retained in their proper positions.
The cap 8 is pmvidod with depending shoulders 9. each terminating in a. lip 10, so that when the rap 8 is slid into position over the. top of the blades (3, the lips 10 engage the inner surface of the crimped portion l of the depending: sidcavalls 3 of the bladeholder and retain that end of the cap by frictional contact. The opposite end of the blade-ladder 2 is provided with an upturned projecting lip 11, under which the end of the ca. en ages, so that that end of the cap is held by Trictional engagement.
The construction described affords a means of holding the blades (1 rigidly to the opposite. sides of the comb, but at the same time permits the holder to slidev longitudinally of the comb for the purpose of reniovinn" the hair which :lccunmlatcs in the opera:- tion of the device. which is operated simply by passing the comb through the hair.
Having thus fully described my in vontion, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Lettersdatxmt is: i
1. A hair cutting device, comb, a blade holder disposed and providcijl with means the comb against lateral permit a sliding movement longitudinally of the comb. blades carried by the blade holder, and a cap disposed over the holder and the blades.
2. A hair cutting device, comprising a c mb, a blade holder dispowd on the comb and provided with means for holding it against lateral movement with relation to the comb and to permit longitudinal move ment, blades carried by the blade holder, and a. cap disposed over the holder and the blades, the blade holder and cap being fric tionally held together.
3. A hair cutting device, comprising a comb, a blade holder disposed on the comb and provided with means for holding it against lateral movement with relation to comprising a on the comb for holding it on movement and to the comb and to permit its longitudinal movement, hladm till'l'lMl. by the blado holdur, and a: 11:11) diaposod over tho holdvr and tho bladvs and 'l'rirtionall hold in plauhy inlurlorking [Hlllm proridud on tlw liladv holder and the rap.
1. hair culling dvviru, ('Hlllllllfilllg a \UllllJ, a: bladv holder disposod on the romh and provided with a pr jecting lip, bllllltm carriod by tho holdvr, and :1 can disposed on the blade lnild'br with nno 0nd ongagring tlnlip and nm'idvd at its opposilv ond with moans for engaging the holdvr.
5. A hair Hitting doviro, tann n-kin; a mail), :1 hladwholdor lllspuh'vil on tho wnnh against lateral :norvna-nt and l)l'(l\'l(ll(l nith urimpud ntwai'dl (Xttlhllll;i" portions. bladvs, tllllltl ll tho l'l'lllllKHl llfll'llUlIH of tho holdvi and a rap diaponvd on tho holdi-r and arranged to fri lionall eng'agv thi holder at our 0nd and pi'o'vidml with lug": ar-
rangod to engage tho orilnpod portions at tho oppositn end of the holder.
G. In a hair cutting dorice the, -on1hination comprising a blado holder of bont metal, havinga slot on 0:11-11 side, :1 hladu disposed in ltlt'll slot and a cover cap disposed over the blades and engaging :1t vach end the blade holder.
7. In :1 hair cutting device, the combination comprising a blade holder provided with a: longitudinal slot, on each side and provided at one end with a lip and having it sidt's outwardly orimped, a blade dis posed in varh slot and a rover rap disposed owr tho liladvs to ongago one and under the lip and n'oviilvd with lugs at its opposite and to ongago Hlltltl tho ('lllll])('(l portions ol tho holder.
