Sumac U NITED STATES P E OFFICE FRANK H. GIBBS, or PORTLAND, OREGON.
DISPLAY-CABINETJ r To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, FRANK H. GrBBs, a citizen of the United States, residing at 865 Clinton street, Portland,"in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification The present invention relates to improvements in display cabinets in the class of store furniture, and particularly to a swinging drawer construction or structure forming part of the cabinet, whereby the drawer may be swung outwardly, entirely free from the cabinet, and detached from its swinging bracket hanger, and may with equal facility be attached again to the bracket hanger, and returned to normal position within the confines of the'cabinet.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a piece of store furniture including drawers in which the'merchandise is stored, said drawers not only having glass fronts to render the contents of the drawers visible but in addition the drawers maybe swung free from the cabinet, and, then dotached bodily therefrom so thatthe merchandise contained in the detached drawer may be inspected and is accessible for sale.
The invention consists in certain .novel combinations and arrangements of parts involving a detachable drawer, a swinging bracket hanger for. the drawer, and certain other novelties in connection therewith as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings one complete example of the physical embodiment of the invention is illustrated, the parts being combined and arranged. according to the best mode so far devised for the practical application of the principles of the invention.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the revolving cabinet or case involving thenew arrangement of swinging drawers, part of the figure being broken away for convenience of illustration.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view on line 22 ofFig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged. sectional view showing one of the drawer hangers, from the inside of the cabinet, and a drawer supported in the hanger.
v i Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb, .10, 1920, Application filed-April 15,1919. 7 Serial No. 290,170. r
Fig. {L is a top plan view of a portion of a drawer showing the manner of hooking it onto the bracket hanger, and showing also the bracket hanger against one of the corner posts of the cabinet to prevent further swinging movement of the hanger.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the back wall of the drawer and hanger showing the hook in position, at line 55 of Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is a section of the front of the drawer on line 66 of Fig. 2. I
In the preferred form of the invention I have employed a revoluble cabinet or case in which the drawers are hung and from which they may be swung, but it will'be under stood that the drawers and their attachments form the essential features of the invention and that the drawers may be used 'in other modes or structures, than the revoluble cabinet.
The cabinet is supported upon a cruciform base, which has a center column 2, that may be an iron pipe, seated and fixed in the socket plate 3 at the center of theba se, and at the upper end the column is provided with a bearing head 4 forming part of a ball bearing suspension for the cabinet or case indicated as a whole by the'numeral 5.
The revoluble cabinet is fashioned with a closed bottom 6 that may be of woodor metal, and a top board 7, which parts are connected by the corner posts 8. that are connected with and braced by the horizontal ribs 9. The cabinet thus is formed of a skeleton frame, and illustrated in the form of a deca'gon or ten-sided figure with spaced corner posts and spaced horizontal ribs, and the skeleton frame is braced by the suspension rods 10 which extend from the bearing head 11 at the center and underside of the top board 7 outwardly and downwardly to the periphery of the bottom or floor 6 of the cabinet. The cabinet is thus free to revolve on the fixed base 1, and at 12 a guide-plate is indicated in dotted lines (Fig. 1) for steadying and guiding the revoluble cabinet in its movement. r
Adjacent each of the corner posts of the cabinet frame is located a hinge bar 13 extending from the base to the top of the cabinet, and fixed in position to support the swinging drawers 14 that are located in the spaces formed by the horizontal ribs and corner postsof the cabinet.
V single piece of wire bent to shape and adapt A multiplicity of drawers areillustrated, but they are all of similar construction and supported from the hinge bars 13, so that a description of one drawer will be suflicient for all of them. a
Each drawer is detachable, and may be.
bodily removed from the cabinet, but is s uspended, when in normal position from a swinging bracket hanger 15 hinged on the hinge bar 13, and supported on the fixed bearing bracket 17, one of which is fixed in the rib 9 directly beneath each hinge joint 16 and serves asa bearing support for the bracket hangertoswing on. The bracket hangerand the bearing bracket are of metal, and the long hinge joint 16 of the hanger on the hinge bar, permits the horizontal bracket to hang true and without sagging, and to support the drawer, preferablyon a flange or shelf 18; projecting from the bottom of the bracket hanger a sufiicient distance to ed to engage over the top edge of the hanger orbracket, and fit neatly and tightly, with frictional contact with the bracket. In" the upper edge of the hanger bracket, spaced notches 21 may be arrangedto seat the bars ofthe hook, and the hook itself is rigidly securedto the back wall of the drawer'by eyes22 on bolts or screws in the wall 28 of the drawer. 1
The front of the drawer has a glass plate 23 to render the interior of the drawer visible, and a handle plate 24 may be used when opening or closing the drawer, and also as a name plate for the contents of the drawer.
What I claim is-- 1. The combination of a drawer, a hanger bracket consisting of an elongated strip against which one side of the drawer is dis-' posed having its ends projecting beyond the drawer, a vertical hinge bar about which one end of the bracket is bent to form a hinged connection, a flange along a portion of the .lower edge of the hanger bracket upon which .the drawer rests, and a spring clasping member carried by the upper edge of one side of the drawer and engageable with the .upper edge-of the said hanger bracket, as
described.
2. The combination of a drawer, a vertical hinge bar at one side thereof, a stop at the opposite side, a hanger bracket along one side of the drawer having one end swingingly mounted on the hinge bar and having its opposite end pr0]ect1ng beyond the drawer to engage said stop, said hanger. bracket having a. lower. flange on which the drawer rests and provided with notches in itsupper. edge, and a clasping member engaging the upper edge of the hanger bracket and formed of. a 'V-shaped wire, the side members of which are seated in the said notches to prevent displacement of the drawer lengthwise of the hanger bracket. r In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
