TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 26', 1921.
Application filed February 11, 1920. Serial No. 357,824.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JAoon Toros, a citizen of Poland, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements inTables, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a table with a plurality of compartments or drawers which are revolubly mounted beneath the table top so that any desired one of the drawers may be brought to any desired point for opening of the same, and placing of articles therein or taking the same therefrom.
A further object of the invention is to provide a table of the above character wherein the revolubly mounted drawers are so related to the table top as to not interfere with the use of the latter at any time or to detract from the appearance of the table.
A still further object of the invention is to produce a table of the above type which is of extremely simple and durable construction and capable of being easily and cheaply manufactured.
With' these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then claimed.
In the drawings forming` a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views, Y
Figure 1 is an elevational. view, partly inV vertical central section, of a table constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of substantially one-half thereof, the table top being indicated by dotted lines to clearly illustrate details of the revolving frame which carries the drawers, and parts being broken away to show further details,
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken substantially upon line III-III of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4t is a fragmentary view partly in elevation and partly in vertical section and showing the relationship of the drawercarrying frame and its supporting platform,
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary perspective View of the supporting carrying-frame,
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5 of the drawinff-carrying frame, and Y Fig. is a perspective view of one of the drawers.
Referring to the drawings more in detail, the present invention comprises a table or like article of furniture embodying a supporting standard or pedestal 5, having the usual legs 6, which may be of any desired character and design. The standard 5 is reduced at its upper end to provide a cylindrical portion 7 and a shoulder 8 at the base of said cylindrical portion, a platform 9 of any preferred form in plan, preferably circular, being' disposed on the cylindrical portion 7, so as to rest upon the shoulder 8 and the braces 10 which are rigidlv carried by the standard 5. I
The table top 11 is preferably of the same form as the platform 9 although slightly greater in diameter, and is provided with a central squared socket in its under surface as at 12, for snugly receiving the reduced ex treme end portion 13 of the standard 5. Suitable posts 1/1 are disposed vertically at intervals between the platform 9 and top 11 so as to rigidly connect the latter, to hold the same against relative movement, and to maintain their spaced relation as seen in Fig. l. These posts are preferably provided with dowel pins 15 at their opposite ends fitting and rigidly secured within sockets of similar form provided in the platform 9 and top l1.
ii. skeleton frame is rotatably mounted between the platform 9 and the top 11, and the same includes a hub 16, provided with radial rigid drawer guides or spokes 17, arranged in vertical pairs and connected rigidly by carrier` partitions or boards 18 which are also radially arranged. It is noted that the partitions 18 outwardly diverge, and, a post 14 is positioned in front of the extreme outer end edge of each of said partitions 18, the space between each pair of posts 14, vallowing for the unobstructed movement of the drawers 19 inwardly and outwardly for the opening and closing thereof. To provide a more durable and practical construction, each upper and lower pair of guides 1T is connected by a horizontal board 19 being rigidly fastened to the outer ends of adjacent spokes in any well known or preferred manner. In order platform for the drawerico `to reduce friction as far possible, l mount and provide little resistance to the rotation of said frame. It is of course understood that the hub V1G is vrevolubly mounted on the` standard portion 7 so that the drawersupporting frame is spaced a slight distance from the adjacent.surfacesvof the platform Y 9 and top 1l.V By disposing the partitions 18 and guides 17 radially, it becomes necessary to utilize a drawer of peculiar shape in plan as shown in Fig. 7. This drawer comprises a verticalnarrow rear end wall 21 and a relatively ,wide front wall QQconnected by outwardly*diverging side walls 23 so as to inclose a substantially triangular space, a bottom 24E, being provided for each drawer as is usual. Y y
As shown in Fig. 1, the hub 16 may be connected with the radial guides 17 by suitable dowel pins, and anupstanding frame 26 maybe placed upon the margin of the platform 9 Yin ,front of the forward edges of'therboards 19 which connect the lower pairs of guides 17.
From the foregoing` description it is readily seen that a personmay assume a position at any pointi radially of the table, and withdraw a drawer at that point, or may revolve vthe drawer-'supporting frame so as to bring any desired drawer within roach for the opening thereof. lt will also be seen that I have provided an extremely durablerand practical construction wnich has obvious advantages. Y
Minor changes may be made in the forni, combination and arrangement of parts v-.f'itliout departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what y ,l claim Las new and desire to secure by Leb ters Patent, is Y 1. A table comprising a supp rting podes-- tal having supporting legs and provided with a rigid reduced cylindrical upper end portion n'oviding a shoulder at the base of said reduced portion, a circular horizontal platform fitted upon said cylindrical portion and resting on said shoulder, a circular horizontal table top non-rotatably fitted such manner that4 upon the upper .end of said per-.estal in spaced relation to and above said platform, a horizontal framesrevolubly mounted upon the cylindrical portion ofthe pedestal be tween the table top and the platform and inH cluding inwardly converging drawer .guides and radially movable substantially triangular sliding drawers carried by said frame.Y
2. A table comprising a supporting pedestal having supporting legs ,and provided with a rigid reduced cylindrical upper end portion providing a shoulder at the base of said reduced portion, a. circular horizontal platform fitted upon said cylindrical portion and resting on said shoulder, a circular'horizontal table top non-rotatably fitted upon the upper end of said 'pedestal in spaced relation to and above said platform, a horizontal frame revolubly mounted upon `the cylindrical portion of the pedestal between the table top and the platform and including inwardly converging drawer guides and radially movable substantially triarrgular sliding drawers carried by said frame, and means rigidly connecting the platform and table top p 'ividing for the unobstructed outward movement of any of the doors of said frame at'any point radially of the table,
3. A table i comprising a supporting pedestal having supporting legs and pro vided with a. rigid reduced cylindrical upper end portion providing a shoulder at the bate of said Vreduced portion, a circular horizontal platform fitted upon said cylindrical portion and resting on' said shoulder, a circular horizontal table top non-rotatably fitted upon the upper end-of said pedestal- A.nicos Toros..
