To all whom it may coiwem:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. .GoRMAiv, a citizen of the United States, residing 1n the city of Portland, county of Multnomah, and State of Oregon, have invented certam new and useful Improi ements in Portable Power-Saws, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to portable power saws and more articularly to certain improvements in t e carrying frame and the supporting and anchoring means therefor.
Among the salient objects of my invention are to provide a simplified, com act and rigid supporting frame-for portab e power.
saws, with a single supporting wheel at one end, and combination hand-grip and anchoring means, at the opposite end .of said frame, whereby said frame can be moved in the manner of moving a wheelbarrow, and can be quickly and securely anchored directl at the point of support on the log or object to be cut; to provide a frame of the character referred to having three points of support, one point at the wheel, and two points directly anchored to the log, thus eliminating the possibility of looseness at the upper end of the frame which would permit the lower end of the frame to work to one side during the operation of the saw through the log to such an extent as to cause the saw to bind, as is frequently the case when the lower end of the frame can be worked to one side because of only one point of anchorage at the upper end and about which it pivots when so moved, or where the anchorage is loose, or not directly anchored at thev point of supor't. p Another object of my invention is to provide an improved combination anchoring means, cap and hand grip for the upper ends of the saw frame, thus p'rotectingthe upper ends of the frame which bear directly upon the log or object being sawed, and which would otherwise be worn away.
Another object of my invention is to provide as a art of said frame, improved means for rmly holding the dry batteries and coil for the motor.
I have illustrated one practical form of my invention on the accompanying two sheets of drawings, in which:

Fig. 6 is a front view of the battery box, with the front thereof removed; and
Fig. 7 is an enlarged detail view of the combination hand grips and anchoring means for the upper end of said frame.
Referring now more in detail to the drawings, my. improved frame structure comprises three longitudinally extendin members 1, 2 and-3, the members 1 an 2, be-
member 3 is set at an angle and connects to the member 2 by bolts 5 and 6, which extend through all three members 1, ,2 and 3, the spacing block 4, and a wedge shaped block 7, between the members 2 and 3'. The members 1 and 3 are connected by a cross member 8, notched into the inner faces of the members 1 and 3, while the member 2 terminates at the cross bar 8, and has a notched engagement therewith, as shown in Fig. 5. A bolt 9 secures the members 1, 2 and 3 together at the cross member 8, mounted between the members 1 and 3. In front of the cross member 8, is a top member 10, under which is a shelf 11, supported by means of bolts 12, 12, provided with thumb nuts 13, 13. Laid upon said shelf 11 are the dry batteries 14, and also a vibrator coil 15. A removable front board 16, is provided with an inwardly projecting filler board 17, adapted to be inserted above the batteries 14:, and under the top board 10, as said front board 16 is put 1n lace in the manner indicated in Fig. 5. fter the front board 16 is inserted, the thumb screws 13, 13, are tightened for the purpose of securely holding the batteries in of the members 1 and 3, are combination hand grip, cap and anchoring members 19, 19, said members being cast each in one piece, and ada ted to have the ends of the members 1 and 3 inserted thereinto', in the manner clearly indicated, said members forming a protectlon for the ends of said members 1 and 3, which rest upon the log or ob ect to be cut, and at the same time forming convenient grips by means of which said structure can be moved by one man from place to place. Also formed as a part of each of said elements 19, is an eye member 20., adapted to receive a prong 21, .of an anchoring dog 22, bolted one to each of the members 1 and 3, as at 23, whereby as the prong 21 is moved downwardly through the eye 20, it can be driveninto the log or object upon which the upper end of the frame structure rests. By providing anchoring means for both arms of the frame in the manner indicated, and directly at the point of support, there is no play or looseness and the lower end of the frame is thus prevented from lateral movement relative to the log, which is frequently caused during the operating ,of the saw, and
which lateral movement results in binding,
.the saw in the log.
Thus I have provided a simplified and strengthened frame structure for portable power saws, with three points of support two points of rigid anchorage, and a single wheel to operate, not only as one point of support, but as a carrier wheel when the structure is to be moved from place to place. The motor, and saw operating mechanism are mounted on said frame structure in the vided with a single supporting wheel at the small end, and handle members at its spaced upper ends, whereby said frame canbemoved like a wheel-barrow, the spaced handled ends of said frame being provided with an avoid tilting movement in use.
2. A portable power saw frame structure comprising two parallel frame members spaced apart sufliciently to receive a single carrying wheel therebetween at one end, one of said frame members being longer than the other and provided at its opposite end with a handle, a third frame member attached to the side of the shorter frame member at the wheel end thereof and diverging therefrom to a point corresponding to the end of the longer frame member and provided with a handle, said handled frame members bein provided with anchoring means for anc oring the same to a log or the like, whereby a three point or tripod support is provided for said frame, substanstantially as and for the purpose indicated.
3. A portable power saw frame having arms at one end, and anchoring means comprising a combination handle and cap for the end of each of said arms, each having an eye formed thereon and a dog pivoted thereto with a prong adapted to operate through said eye into a support for said arms, substantially as described.
4. A portable power saw frame comprising a frame structure of tapering A-form, provided with a. single wheel'support at the small end thereof, and at its opposite end having its spaced ends provided with a combination hand grip and holding means, whereby said frame can be moved by hand, as is a wheel-barrow and anchored upon a log, thus providing a three point or tripod support, substantially as shown .and described.
