To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lunwre \Vonrrenmr, a citizen of the German Empire, and resident of Erie, county of Erie, and State of Penn sylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tube, Pipe, and Rod 1 Drawing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to tube and pipe drawing apparatus, and has for an object to provide improvements in the means for drawing the tubes, pipes or rods, by which after the tube, pipe or rod has been drawn through the forming dies, the movable drawing carriage will automatically (by gravity in the present disclosure) return to its first position. Heretofore, it has been necessary to return the carriage to its first position by hand or by some mechanical and power consuming means. In the present invention, I propose to provide means which willutilize the force of gravity to return the carriage to its first position, and to this end I provide in the present embodiment an inclined platform or guide along which the carriage is drawn upwardly during the drawing of the tube, pipe or rod, the .carriage moving by gravity when released to its first position.
With these and other objects in view, an embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, and this embodiment will be hereinafter more fully described with reference thereto, and the invention will be finally pointed out in the claims.

Figure 1 is a diagrammatic side view of a pipe, tube or rod drawing apparatus embodying my invention; and
Figs. 2 and 3 are diagrammatic detail views of the carriage showing the two positions thereof, viz. with the jaws gripping the pipe, tube or red, and with the same released by the jaws.
Similar reference characters indicate corl responding parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, the embodiment disclosed diagrammatically therein comprises a carriage 1, disposed upon a support or guide 2, inclined relatively to the horizontal floor, the angle of inclination being indicated by pi oz. The carriage is provided with pivoted jaws 3 and 4 adapted upon turning of the earn 5 to the position indicated in Fig. 2 to grip the end of the pipe, tube or red, the said cam being movable with the pivoted lever 6 provided at one end with a weight 7 and at its other end. with a hook 8. B y turning the cam to the position indicated in Fig. 3, the jaws are released from the pipe, tube or rod, this operation being performed automatically as will hereinafter appear.
Extending along the guide 2, at one side of the die holder 9 inwhich are mounted suitable drawing dies and through which the pipe, tube or,,rod 10 is drawn, there is provided a chain 11 carried over sprocket gears 12 and 13 and adapted to be propelled in the direction of the arrow Li by suitable gearing indicated by imaginary lines at 15, 16 and 17.
The hooked end 8 of the lever 6, carried by the carriage, is engaged with the chain and from the position indicated in full lines, Fig. 1, the carriage is drawn upwardly along the inclined ,guide 2, drawing the pipe, tube or rod through the drawing dies to the position indicated in dotted lines, Fig. 1, and as the carriage reaches this dotted line position, the pipe, tube or rod being fully withdrawn from the dies, the lever 6 engages a stop 18 causing the hooked end 8 to be disengaged from the chain and through operation of the cam 5, the pipe,

weighted end of the lever preventing the hook from reengaging the chain, Upon removal of the pipe, tube or rod, the carriage moves by gravity along the inclined guide or support to its first position being limited at the end of its downward movement by means of a. stop 19. The carriage may thereupon be engaged with the end of another length of pipe, tube or rod, and the drawing operation repeated.
With my improvements, a very simplified machine is provided, and the necessity of returning the carriage to its first position by hand or by mechanical means is entirely -done away with.
I have illustrated and described aprefer-red and satisfactory embodiment of my invention, but it is obvious that changes may be made therci; within the spirit and scope thereof as defined in the appended claims.
