To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RICHARD S. MORGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Edwardsville, in the county of Luzerne and Stateof Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hammock-Hooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to hardware and more particularly to hammock swings.

It is one of the objects of the present invention to provide a simple, practicable, inexpensive and durable hannnock hook consisting of av member having a pair of spaced bearing lugs at one end and a wood screw or other fastening device at the other end to be secured to the structural element or member from which it may be desired to suspend the hook.

Another and important object of the invention relates to the provision of means for lubricating the swinging element of the hook and especially so as to provide for a lubricant which need not be frequently replenished and which will be so contained as to be prevented from dripping and thus wasting.

lVith these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the construction, the combination, and in details and arrangements of the parts more particularly described hereinafter relative to the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein,

The device comprises essentially two members, one of which is provided with a pair of laterally spaced lugs 2 connected at the top by a cross pi ce which preferably is flattened transversely as at 3 and from Specification of Letters Patent.

which extends perpendicularly a wooden screw 4 or other simple fastening member. The hook member comprises a body portion 5 of substantially cylindrical form fitting between the spaced lugs 2 and having extending from one side a hook 6 there being on the side diametrically opposite the hook 6, an oil cup 7 disposed and protected be tween the side members or lugs 2.

As clearly shown in Fig. 2 the cylindrical body portion 5 of the hook member has a chamber 8 which extends from the cup mem her 7 down to and below the pivot 9 which fastens the hook to the lug member. By this construction it is possible to fill the chamber 8 with a suitable fibrous packing material which may be saturated by a lubricant of suitable character so that the relatively swinging parts will be thoroughly lubricated and the lubricant will be prevented from draining away and thus will be made to last for a very considerable period of time as it will be used up very gradually from that part of the cup which is below the pivot line.

By this construction I have provided a simple, strong, durable and noiseless hook which also prevents rapid wear of the swmg rlngs.

I claim:

A hammock or other hook comprising a bifurcated member having alined lugs and a wood screw, a pivot mounted in said lugs, and a hook member having a body having an axial bore fitting between the side lugs of the bifurcated member and pivotally secured thereto by said transverse pivot, the upper side of the body having an oil cup the chamber of which communicates with the axial bore thereof, the body having below the pivot a pocket forming the bottom of the oil cup, to hold an oil saturated packin In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
