Beit known that I, DANIEL Kors, a citi- Zen ofthe United States, residing in thc borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Apparel-Corsets, of which the following is a speciiication.

This invention relates to an apparel corset, and particularly to that type of garment known as a front lace corset.

I am aware that heretofore corsets have been constructed in suoli a manner Vas to provide front lace adjusting devices to extend along the front medial line of the corset, and garments of this type have also been constructed in which the usual vfront steels are' employed to connect the parts of the garment along the front medial line and in which the front lacing' devices have been placed adjacent one or both of the front steel sections. In garments 'of' these types there have also been employed various self-reducing and uplifting features, as well as tongue members underlying the lacing section or sections of the garment. So far as I am aware however, in no instance in a front lace corset garment has there ever been employed a cover or overlying section to conceal the lacing devices.

The object of my. invention therefore, is to provide a front lace .corset garment so constructed that the yfront laces are entirely concealed, preferably by an extension of the body of the garment which overlies the lacing section and which preferably extends to the front medial line of the corset, together with means for securing this overlying' section in position, as will be hereinafter more particularly described.

Referring to the drawing, my improved apparel corset preferably comprisesa body member 10 and a body member 11 connected at the back edges by a suitable fabric 12 which may be either elastic or inelastic, as 'is customary in front llace corsets. The

body portions of the garment are also provided with skirt sections indicated at 13 and 14 respectively. The body member 10 is adapted to lit the vleft side of the body of the wearer' and is provided at its front edge with a corset steel 15 havingl the usual stud members 16 secured therein. In this side of the garment, thelower front section of the skirt 13 is loose `or unsecured to the body portion, from the front edge to approximately the point 17 and the upper extremity of the loose portion of the skirt is provided with a reinforcing strip 18 which extends not only along the upper free edge of the skirt section, but appreciably beyond the same, as clearly indicated in Fig. 3. At its forward edge, the reinforcing strip 18 at the upper extremity of this loose skirt section, is provided with a hook 19, the function of which will be `hereinafter described.

In this garment, I also employ a front steel section 2O fitted with a steel, complementary to the front steel 15, andiitted with a series of clasps 21 adapted to engage with the studs 16 to connect the front steels at the front medial line of the garment. In this front steel section `2O there are provided also, a series of` eyelets 22.

At a predetermined distance from the front edge of the body member 11 of the garment there is secured on the inner side thereof an eyelet strip 23. This is also provided with a series of eyelets 24 in positions corresponding to the eyelets 22, and laces 25 are threaded through the eyelets 22 and 24, in order to adjust thegarment to position on the body of the wearer.

The body memberll is adapted to fit the right side of the body of the wearer, and that portion thereof which extends forward of the line of connection between thisbody member and theeyelet strip 23, constitutes a front overlying section adapted to extend completely over the lacing devices to conceal the lsame from view, so that to all appearances, when in place on the body, this corset is the same as one made to be adjusted to place along Ithe back medial lines of the garment. The lower portion of this overlying` section 26 is the front extremity of the skirt member 14, depending from this section of the garment. This skirt section 27 is that portion of `the skirt which is forward of the line 28, the line 28 being a continuation of the line of stitching along which the 4 eyelet strip 23 is secured in this section of the garment. At the upper end of this skirt section 27 and continuing along the lower portion of the body section of the garment there is a reinforcing strip ,29. At the forward end of the reinforcing strip 29 there is a series of eyelets 30 any one of which is adapted to be engaged by the hook 19 so as to secure these skirt sections together over the lower front ends of the front steel sections, thereby also securing the lower end of the overlying section 26 in position. In the upper end of the front steel section 20, there is also a series of eyelets 31, and attached to the inner surface at the upper portion of the overlying section 26 there is a hook 32 adapted to engage with any one of the eyelets 21, in order to secure the upper end of the overlying section in position. c

In the use of this garment, as will be apparent, the same is placed on the body of the wearer and the front steels connected in the customary manner. The garment is then adjusted to position by drawing up the laces and tying the same. After this is done, the hook 32 is engaged with one of the eyelets 31 to secure the upper overlying section in place, and finally the hook 19 is caused to engage one of the eyelets to not only secure the lower end of the overlying section 26 in place, but also the lower front skirt member on the opposite or other side of the garment, so that both the overlying section and the lower front skirt members are adjusted to place and held in position independently of the lower front steel section of the corset. Also as will now be apparent, when the garment is thus adjusted to position, the lacing sections will be covered so as to be entirely concealed from view', thereby overcoming the objection to wearingthe ordinary laced corsets with thin outer clothing through which the lacing devices may be seen.

While I have herein shown and described my invention as applied to only one side of a corset garment, it will be understood that it may be applied to both sides thereof without departing from the nature and spirit of the invention.

I claim as my invention:

1. In an apparel corset, corset body parts, and front lacing devices by which the corset body parts are adjusted to position, with a portion of the said corset body parts being adapted to overlie and conceal the lacing devices.

2. In an apparel corset, corset body parts, front lacing devices by which the corset body Gopies of this patent may be obtained for parts are adjusted to position, with a portion of the said corset body parts being adapted to overlieJ and conceal the lacing devices, and means for securing the overlying portion in position.

3. In an apparel corset comprising corset body parts, front steel sections, lacing de- `vices adjacent one of the front steel sections for adjusting the garment to position, one of the corset body parts having a portion thereof adapted to overlie the lacing devices to conceal the same, and means for connecting the upper end of the said overlying portion to the adjacent front steel section.

4. In an apparel corset comprising corset body parts, a front steel secured in the front edge of one of the corset body parts, a front steel section adapted to be connected to the said front steel, lacing devices connecting the front steel section to the other corset body part for adjusting the garment to position, the said other corset body part having a portion thereof adapted to overlie the lacing devices to conceal the saine. j

5. In an apparel corset comprising corset body parts, skirt members `depending from the corset body parts, a front steel secured in the front edge of one of the corset body parts, a front steel section adapted to be connected to the said front steel, lacing devices connecting the front steel section to the other corset body part for adjusting the garment to position, the said other corset body part having a portion thereof adapted to overlie the lacing devices to conceal the same, and devices for connecting the lower front skirt sections together to secure the same in place and maintain the lower end of the overlying portion in position.

6. In an apparel corset comprising corset body parts, skirt members depending from the corset body parts, a front steel secured in the front edge of one of the corset body parts, a front steel section adapted to be connected to the said front steel, lacing devices connecting the front steel section to the other corset body part for adjusting the garment to position, the said other corset body part having a portion thereof adapted to DANIEL KOPS.
