To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAsoN CLEMENT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lowell, in the county of Cochise and State of Arizona, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Luggage-Handling Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved luggage handling device and has as its primary object to provide a device of this character which may be manually employed for lifting trunks or other similar articles and carrying them from place to place.

The invention has as a further object to provide a device of this character which will dispense with the necessity for manually grasping the handle of a trunk while, at the same time, a secure purchase upon the trunk will be had.

And the invention has as a still further object to provide a device so constructed that its use in handling luggage will not result in injury to the luggage.

Other and incidental objects will appear hereinafter. In the drawings:

Figure l is a perspective view showing the manner in which my improved device is engaged with the handle of a trunk, the trunk being conventionally illustrated, and

Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the device in detail.

In carrying the invention into effect, my improved device is formed with a shank 10 provided at one end with a handle 11. The shank is slightly tapered in thickness toward its opposite end and at its inner terminal is bent up to form a flat upstanding bearing arm 12. Adjacent its upper end,

this arm is provided with lateral oppositely directed steadying lugs 13, the arm being substantially cruciform. Engaged through the shank 10 adjacent its inner end and rigidly connected therewith, is a depending hook 14 the bill of which lies in a plane with said shank'and is directed inwardly away from the handle 11, it being observed in this connection that the bill of the hook terminates substantially flush with the inner face of the arm 12. V

In order that the manner of use of my improved device may be accurately understood I have, in Fig. 1 of the drawings, shown the device in connection with a conventional type of trunk 15, one of the handle straps of whichis indicated at 16. As shown in this figure, the hook 14 is engaged beneath said strap while the arm 12 is presented to the adjacent end of the trunk to hear thereagainst above the strap. Thus, by grasping the handle 11 of the device and ralslng upwardly thereon, the trunk may be readily lifted and, if desired, carried about from place to place. In this connection, it is to be noted that when the trunk is thus lifted the lugs 13 of the arm 12 will coact with the end wall of the trunk to prevent the revented. Furthermore as will be seen 1 the use of the device in handling trunks or other luggage will not result in injury thereto.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

A device of the character described including a shank having a bearing arm upstanding from the inner end thereof, work engaging means depending from the shank in the rear of said arm, and means project ing laterally from the arm and adapted to coact with the work for sustaining the device against lateral rocking movement with respect to the work.
