COLLAR AND TIE PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Oct. 21, 1919.
Application filed April 16, 1919. Serial No. 290,415.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR M. GERLAT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sheboygan, in the county of fiheboygan and State of Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar and Tie Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a protector for collars and neckties, an object of the invention being to provide a protector, which is preferably constructed of transparent moisture proof material, which will protect the front portion of the collar and also the knot of a necktie from being soiled and further protect a collar from excessive wear such as is frequently occasioned by the rubbing of the wearers beard, particularly when the same is very stiff and stubby, thereby increasing the longevity of the collar and necktie.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which drawing:
Figure 1 is a view illustrating the application of the improved protector.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the protector.
Fig. 3 is a vertical central section through the protector, and
Fig. 4 is a bottom plan of the protector.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 generically indicates the protector which is preferably made of transparent moisture proof material, such as celluloid, but it is to be understood that the protector may be made of any suitable type of transparent or translucent material without departing from the spirit of this invention.
The protector 1 includes the inner attaching portion 2 which is longitudinally arouated as clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings for engagement against the inner surface of a collar, upon each side of the meeting of the free or attaching ends or pads thereof. The outer protecting portion of the protection which is generically indicated by the numeral 3 comprises the central or intermediate portion 4 which is substantially triangular in shape, having its long side positioned upwardly it being formed to extend over the upper portion of the outer side of the collar and partially over the knot of a necktie, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. This central or intermediate port1on 4 of the protecting portion 3 of the protector has wings 5 and 6 formed upon its edges, each wing being substantially triangular in shape, drawing the intermediate portion along its hypotenuse. These wings 5 and 6 are bent inwardly or rearwardly toward the rear attaching portion of the protector for frictional gripping engagement with or for bearing against the outer surface of a collar for coacting with the portion 2 to securely hold the protector in place.
As clearly shown in the drawings, the protector 1 is preferably made of a single plece of material, and the cut out portions indicated at 7 in the drawings, are provided merely to permit the protector to be bent or shaped to assume the desired configuration for proper fitting to a collar and tie to protect the upper edge of the collar adjacent the connecting portion against wear as well as from being soiled by perspiration.
Changes in details may be made without geparting from the spirit of this invention,
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a collar protector including an outer collar protecting portion having substantially triangular ways bent inwardly for frictionally engaging a collar.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a collar protector including an attaching portion for engagement against the inner surface of a collar, and an outer collar protecting portion having substantially triangular shaped wings at each end, said wings being bent inwardly for frictionally engaging a collar.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a collar protector including an attaching portion longitudinally arcuated and adapted to engage the inner side of a collar adjacent the attaching tabs thereof, and a collar protecting portion formed thereon and adapted for extending over the upper edge and a portion of the outer surface of a collar.-
4. As a new article of manufacture, a col lar protector including an attaching portion the outer surface of a collar, and inwardly longitudinally arcuated and adapted to enbent Wings formed upon said protecting-porgage the inner side of a collar adjacent the tion and adapted to frictionally bear against attaching tabs thereof, a collar protecting the outer surface of a collar.
portion formed thereon and adapted for extending over the upper edge and a portion of ARTHUR MAX GERLAT.
