LEG PROTECTOR.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 15. 1918.
Patented Apr. 8,1919.
Fiirili amen V60;
I and construction of the device as Wlll be @FFEQE.
THEONE K. HOFTO, OI GRAND FORKSyNORTH DAKOTA.
LEG-PRQTECTOB.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, THEONE K. Homo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Forks, in the county -of Grand Forks and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Leg-Protectors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improved leg protecting device, and has for its primary object to provide a simple and inexpensive article as a substitute for leggings, which is designed to be worn beneath the stocking to protect the calf of the wearers leg from cold, wind and rain.
It is a more particular object of my invention to provide a protector for the above purpose preferably formed of fabric which is suitably treated to render the same im-' pervious to air and moisture, and means for easily and quickly attaching the device or removing the same from the leg of the user.
It is also another object of the invention to provide a leg protecting device which can be retailed at small cost, and which will be invisible in use, as well as highly serviceable and effective for the purpose in View.
' With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the improved form hereinafter more fully described, subsequently claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and
wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device as applied in use; and
Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of the protector.
' Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 designates the body of the device wh1ch preferably consists of a sheet of water-proof textile fabric or silk, and which is cut to provide the convergently disposed end edges 6 and the concentrically curved longitudinal edges 7. Thus, it will be understood that the body 5 tapers in width. It is preferably approximately ten inches in length along its shorter longitudinal edge 7 and approximately sixteen inches in length along the longer longltudinal edge 7. A finishing strip of braid Specification of Letters Patent.

the edges of the body 5.
To one side of the body 5, a tie cord or tape 9 is secured. This tape extends in parallel relation to the longer curved edge 7 of the body and the fixed portion of the tape terminates in spaced relation to the end edges 6, said tape having the free end portions 10 which are'adapted to be tied together. By terminating the fixed portion of the tape in spaced relation to the end edges 6, these'edges may lap upon each other so that thedevice can be properly and securely fitted.
The protector is designed for use by men, women and children, and is worn beneath the sock or stocking. The narrower end of the body 5 extends down about one inch below the shoe top, and the edges 6 meet or overlap at the rear. .The string or tape 9 extending around the upperportion of the protector serves to securely hold the device in its appliedposition. After the device is thus applied, it is entirely covered by the stocking so that it will be invisible. It will be understood that the protectors can be manufactured in various colors for wear with differently colored stockings. If desired the device may also be constructed of celluloid or other materialhaving the requisite flexibility. 1
is susceptible of considerable modification and I, therefore, reserve the. privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
1, claim -A protector of the character described consisting of a sheet of flexible material having concentrically curved longitudinal edges and convergently disposed end edges, said sheet of material being adapted for its engagement around the calf of the leg and adapted to extend at its lower end beneath the shoe top, and a securing tape having its medial portion fixed to one side of the body of the protector and extending in parallel relation with and adjacent to the longer longitudinal edge thereof, said fixed portion of the tape terminating in spaced relation to the opposite end edges of the protector whereby the ends'of the protector may. be lapped 10 upon each other, said tape having'free end portions adapted to be tied together.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses;
THEQNE K. HOFTO. Witnesses: W. S. DICKINSON,.
