To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALVA S. Looms, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Menomonee Falls, in the county of Waukesha and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Spot-Lights for Motor-Vehicles, of which the followin is a description, reference being had to t e accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in spot lights for motor cars, and has for its primary object to provide a spot light which can be readily moved in any direction to throw the beam of light along the road.
A further object of this invention is to provide a spot light which is especially adapted for use on trouble cars for repairing electrical or telephone wires, in that the spot light may be readily moved to throw the beam of light at all angles.
A further object of this invention is to provide a spot light capable of use with any style of vehicle and which will not disfigure the vehicle and which will be eiiicient in its operation.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described, and more particularly defined by the appended claims, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the hereindisclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claims.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, 5 designates an automobile, to the dashboard of which is secured a air of bracket members 6 in which the ro members 7 and 8, and coperating spot light 9 are mounted. While in the present embodiment, the rod members 7 and 8 are illustrated as being horizontally disposed, it will be understood that they may be disposed vertically withoutl aifecting the operation thereof.
Each member 6 has journally retained therein by means of inwardly projecting flanges 10 a spool member 11 provided with an opening 12 shaped to receive the rods 7 and 8. The brackets 6 are secured to the machine 5 by means of screws 13, the innermost screw 13 serving to retain the ends 14 of the brackets 6 in closed position.
The rods 7 and 8 are U-shaped in cross section, and have their inner faces meeting as at 15. The rod 8 is substantially retained in the spool members 6 against lateral movement by means of lugs 8 secured to the rod 8 and engaging the spool member, as best shown in Fig. 5, and the rod member 7 is free to move laterally in the spool members 11 for the reasons hereinafter described.
The spot light 9 has its base 9' pivoted in a lug 16 secured to the rod 8 by screw 16', and has fixed to its base 9 one end 17 of an arm 18. the outer end of which is slotted as at 19 for engao'ing with stud 20, carried by rod member By this arrangement, when the rod 7 is moved laterally with respect to rod 8, t-he spot light 9 will be turned on its pivot as depicted by dotted lines in Fig. 2.
For moving the rod member 7, as just described, a handle or lever 21 is provided, having its inner end pivoted as at 23 for pivotal engagement with a stud 24, carried by a projection 25 secured to rod member 7 by means of suitable fastenings 26.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it will be readily seen that to move the spotlight 9 toshrow the beam of light vertically, it is simply necessary to raise the lever handle 21 which will rotate the rods 7 and 8 in their brackets, as depicted by dotted lines in Fig. 3, and when it is desired to move the beam of light horizontally, the handle lid 2i is moved laterally in the direction in which it is desired to throvv the light, this operation moving .the rod l laterally in the spool members ll. and revolves spot light 9 on its pivot by means of its arm i8, as hereinbefore described.
While in the drawing ll have illustrated this invention as in use with only one spot light it Will be understood that the rod members 7 and 8 may be extended so as to provide a machine.
What l claim as myinvention is:
l. A. device of the class described, comprising, a bracket adapted to be secured tol a support, a bearing member rotatabl carried by said bracket, a rod member rlgidly mounted in said bearing member, a second rod member slidably mounted in said bearing member, a spot light carried by one of said rod members, a coupling between the spotlight and the other oi' said rod members, and means for operating the rod members to move the-spot light in all directions.
2. A device of the character described, comprising, a bracket adapted to be carried by a support, a bearing member, rotatably mounted in said bracket, a rod member rigidly mounted in said bearing member, a second rod slidably mounted in said bearingmember, a spot light pivoted to one of Said rod members, link means pivotally connecting the pivot of the spot light With the other of said rod members, and a handle having its inner end pivoted to the first mentioned ,rod member and its intermediate portion slidably pivoted to the last mentioned rod member for moving the rod members to swing the spot light in all directions.
3. A device of the class described, com prising, a bracket member and rod member carried thereby andcapable of rotation but held against longitudinal movement, a second rod member carried by said bracket member and capable of rotation and also .adapted to be moved longitudinally,a spot light pivotally carried by one of said rod members, means connecting the spot light spot light on each side of the4 narrar-e adapted to pivotally engage a stud carried' by said second rod member.
