Description

R. CHARTRAND-MESSNER. GARMENT SUPPORTEB. APPLICATION F'ILED JAN.22. I917.
1,3 1 6, 5 32 Patented Sept. 16, 1919.
RAPHAEL OHARTRAN'D-MESSNER, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept, 16, 1919.
Application filed January 22, 1917. Serial No. 143,753.
i To all whom it may concern:
The present invention is directed to im-- provements in garment supporters of the suspender type, and has for its object to so construct an article of this type that the same will eflectively hold the trousers up through the medium of a pair of buttons, one button being located at each side of the trouser waist band.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pair of suspenders so constructed that the same can be used under the shirt so as to hide the suspenders from view when a person is not wearing a vest or coat.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a garment supporter having means for supporting the trousers and also the drawers.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and ar rangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a'view of the supporter showing the position that the parts assume when thesame is in use.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the combined trouser and drawer supporting device.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 44 of Fig. i
Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view through the sleeve.
Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates the single length of strap which may be formed from non-elastic or elastic web, as seen fit. Both ends of the strap 1 are fixed to the loop 2 after the same has been doubled upon itself and passed through the loop 3 carried by the clamping buckle 4, said buckle being of the conventional form and is adapted to hold the strap in adjusted positions.
The strap when in use has portions thereof arranged in intersecting relation which rest upon the back of the wearer, and the loops 5 formed by thus arranging the strap are engaged by the sleeve 6 which is formed by bending a piece of sheet metal 7.
The button loops 8 have their bars 9 engaged in the sleeve 6, likewise the drawer supporting hook 10 has its bars 11 engaged in the sleeve 7, which is in turn engaged in the round or oval sleeve 6.
When the strap is engaged on the body of the wearer the button loops 8 are engaged with the buttons on each side of the inside of the waist band of the trousers, and when it is desired to support the drawers, the usual tapes thereof are engaged in the hooks 10.
The arms of the buttons 8 are provided with depressions 12 which are engaged by the eyes 13 of the brace bar 14, said bar serving to hold the adjacent ends of the bars 9 from spreading.
From the foregoing description it will be seenthat a garment supporter has been provided which is so arranged when in use, that the strain on the back of the trousers encountered when wearing the usual suspenders, is eliminated so that the wearer can lean forward without being subjected to the uncomfortable feeling common in the ordinary Suspender.
What is claimed is A device of the character described including a sleeve around which a portion of a garment supporter is adapted to be engaged, a loop formed of a length of wire having its ends mounted in said sleeve and provided adjacent said sleeve with depressions, a brace bar having its ends mounted in said depressions and connecting the sides of the loops, and a hook also formed of a length of wire having its ends mounted in said sleeve.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
RAPHAEL CHARTRAND-MESSNER.
