IMPROVEMENT IN WlNDOW-CORNICES.

To all whom it may concern:

,makin g a cornice in such manner that the end and center ornaments shall be adjustable, and in this way making the cornices easily fitted and adjusted to windows, 850., without the necessity of constructing the cornices specially for the windows they are designed to fit or apply them to, by this means reducing the cost of the cornices. 4 A

In the accompanying sheet of drawing, Figure 1 represents a front view of my invention; Fig. 2, a back view; and Fig.3, a cross-section of same.

A represents the molding or main part of the cornice, which may be of any design and size. Into the back or under side of this molding, and in the direction of its length, is formed a groove, a. The ends or corners B, of any desired design and size, have secured to their under side a tongue, I). This tongue projects beyond the inner side of end or corner piece 13, and is of such size as will admit of its entering into the groove 0, and in this way retain the corner and molding together; from which it will be seen that to adjust the cornice to a given window it is simply necessary to saw the molding A to the required length and affix the end pieces, as above described. The molding A is divided equally in two pieces, and the center ornament G, being provided with tongues c c, secured to its back and projecting on both of its sides, said projecting tongues are inserted into the groove ain like manner with the end pieces, when the cornice will be completed with a center ornament and two end ornaments.

It is obvious that the groove a may be of any width and shape. Perhaps the dovetail.

would be preferable; or, instead of cutting the groove into the molding a cast-metal groove may be secured to the back in sections, and

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A window-cornice, composed of the sectiona-l moldings A and ornamental end pieces B B and central piece 0, secured together by tongues b b c c on said end, and central pieces fitting grooves in the inner face of moldings A, substantially as herein described.
