STOVEPIPE-THIMJBLE ATTACHMENT.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY lfnrrnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county. of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Eltovepipe-Zlhimble Attachments, of which the following is a speciiication.

This invention relates to a stove pipe thimble attachment, the thimble being provided with means to limit the insertion of the stove pipe within the thimble, and the collar of the thimble being cut away to provide an opening for the escape of hot air, and forming a loop for connection with a terminal of a pipe holder.

In carrying out my invention, T provide the thimble with an adjustable member, which may be projected any appreciable distance within the chimney flue, this member being utilized to direct the rain water away from theflue opening, thus preventing this water from finding its way through the flue opening to damage the paint or paper upon the wall.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 10 indicates the thimble formed at one end to provide the collar 11, the latter terminating to provide an inwardly directed flange 12, adapted to bear against the wall of the chimney it when the thimble is associated with the stove pipe in the manner illustrated in Specification of Letters Patent.

Flg. t. Disposed within the thimble 10 is a lug l3 constituting a stop to limit the in sertion of the pipe elbow B within the thimble. The collar 11 is cut out at an appropriate point to provide an eye 16 adapted to receive the hook terminal 17 of the ipe holder illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5. This holder consists of a strand of wire or other suitable material terminating at one end to provide the said hook 17, the opposite end defining a loop which is adapted to embrace the vertical portion of tl'ic elbow B as clearly shown in Fig. l. When the collar if is stamped to provide the eye 16, an opening 19 is also provided in the collar to permit the escape of hot air from the chamber de fined by the space between the chimney A and the collar 11.

Associated with the thimble 10 is a member clearly illustrated in Figs. 3, 6 and 7, this member being substantially semi-cylindrical in cross section to conform to the curvature of the thimble l0. Projecting from the body portion 20 of this member, is an extension 21, having an elongated slot 22 adapted to register with an opening 23 in the thimble for the reception of a bolt 2d having associated therewith a nut 25. The body portion 20 is formed to provide groove 26 which extends across the entire transverse area of the member. This member is primarily intended to direct the rain water or the like which comes down the wall of the chimney, away from the pipe receiving opening, with a view of preventing this water from gaining access to the opening and wedging its way in the direction of the wall papers which it would obviously mar or destroy. The water strikingthe curved body portion 20 of this member is carried downwardly through the chimney, in the direction of the groove 26 which also conveys the water downwardly as will be readily understood. By reason of the slot 22, the member 20 can be adjusted on the thimble 10 as the circumstances may require.

of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood, that I do not limit myself to the exact details herein shown and described, inasmuch as such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.

If desired, the thimble 10 and the pipe collar 11 may be coated with fire proof materia-l as shown in Fig. 2, to prevent burning or" the parts to Which the thimble pro ects, should the pipe collar become over-heated.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is 1. The combination With a stove pipe thimble of a. member carried by the thimble and projected within the flue to direct ruin Water or the like away from the pipe receiving opening of the chimney.

2. The combination with a stove pipe thimble and means for fixing the thimble to the chimney, of e semi-cylindrical member carried by the thimbie and projected within the fine to direct rain water or the like away from the pipe receiving opening of the chimney for the purpose specified.

3. The combination with a stove pipe thimble of a. semi-cylindrical member mounted upon the thimble and adjustable with respect thereto to project within the chimney, means for holding the member fixed in given position upon the thirnblc, said member being adapted to direct rain rater from the pipe receiving opening oi the chimney for the purpose specified.

The combination with u stove pipe thimble. of a semi-cylindrical member mounted upon the thimble and adjustable with respect thereto to project within the rhirnney, said member having a longitudinal slot, a bolt projecting from the thimble and passed through said slot. a nut associated with said bolt for holding the said member fixed relatively to the thimble .in its udj usted position, and the projecting extremity of said member being formed with :1 groove extending from edge to edge for the purpose specified.
