Description
C- A. STO'NER.
PULLEY.
APPLICATION FILED AUG-23, I920.
1,392,717, Patented Oct. 4, 1921.
INVENTOR ATTORNEY NITED CHARLES A. STONEB, 0F TOLEDO, OHIO.
PULLEY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Get. 4, 1921.
Application filed August 23, 1920. Serial No. 405,383.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. STONER, acitizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pulleys, of which the followin is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements 1n blocks or pulleys and the principal object of the invention is to provide a casing for inclosing the pulley or sheaves of the block so as to prevent injury to the persons using the same by having their fingers or handscaught between the cables and wheels.
Another object of the invention is to provide the casing with openings through wh ch the cables may pass and to make the casing of two parts which are detachably held together so that access can be had to the parts when desired.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to' be hereinafter fully described, illus trated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appendeo claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an edge view of the improved device.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Fig. 3 is a view of the two parts of the casing showing the same separated.
Fig. 4 is a top view.
In these views A indicates the casing for inclosing the sheaves 1 of the block or pulley. This casing is made up of the plate 2 and the plate 3, the plate 3 being bent at right angles to provide the top-portion 4:. The
lower ends of the plates 2 and 3 are tapered as shown. The plates are held in spaced relation by the bolts and nuts 5, the bolt at the lower end carrying a sleeve 6 to which is attached the hook 7. The shaft 8 for the sheaves passes through the centers of the plates and has its ends threaded to receive the nuts. The supporting hook 9 for the device may pass through the centrally arranged hole 10, formed in the top at and this top is provided with the holes 11 through which the cables may pass. It will thus be seen that the sheaves with the portions of the cables passing over the same are protected by the casing and its bolts so that the danger of a person having his hand caught between the ropes and sheaves is removed.
hen i is desired to remove the casing to get at the sheaves, by removing the nuts lifting off the plate 3.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A device of the class described comprising a casing formed of two side plates, with the upper portion of one side plate bent over to form a top, said top having openings therein for the passage of the cables, bolts holding the side plates in spaced relation, a sheavecarrying shaft passing through the side plates, a sleeve carried by the bolt at the lower end of the plates, a hook carried by said sleeve and a supporting hook passing through one of the holes in the top and connected with the sheave-carrying shaft.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CHARLES A. STONER.
