As illustrated the jfree extremities of the legs '19 are each provided with, an inwardly extending flange 22 constituting a shoulder which is disposed at an angle with respectto the bight 20. The angularity of the flanges 22 are substantially identical to that of the shoulders 17 formed onthe shank headand the inclination of the bight 20 conforms to and'is substantially identical with the inclination of the end wall 13.
In use of the tool holder, the yoke ,is applied to the head of the shank with the legs 19 straddling the same and the inner edges of the flanges, 22 in engagement withtheshoulders 17. It wil1-be understood that upon vertical sliding movement of the yoke the bight 20 willbe moved toward or away from the end wall 13"to increase or decrease the size of the socket formed by the end wall 13 and the bight. of the drawing it will be seen that as the portion or bight yoke is moved downwardly, the co-acting engagement of the shoulders 17 and the flanges 22 will serve to effect'relative movement of the bight of the yoke toward the end wall 13 whereby to clamp the tool against said end wall. A reverse movement of the yoke will move the bight 20 away from the end wall to permit of the removal of the tool. Likewise the movement of the yoke and the resulting relative movement of the bight toward or away from the end wall will serve to increase or decrease the socket which is formed by the end wall and the bight to accommodate tools of varying cross sectional dimensions. v c I The attachment consists of a clamping member 23 preferably constructed from a steel plate of a width substantially equal tov taining screw 27, the threaded portion 28. of which engages in the threaded socket 29 formed in the shank head 12.
After the tool 10 has been arranged and clamped by the yoke to the end of theshank, the clamp member 23 is positioned on the yoke and the retaining screw 27 is inserted through the central aperture 26 thereof and engaged in the folded socket 29 to lock and retain the yoke in relatively adjusted position with respect to the shank head thereby positively eliminating any possibility of slipping which would tend to loosen the tool. The screw 27 may be also employed to advance and jam the co acting shoulders and flanges 17 and 22 of the shank head and yoke.
It is to be understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein, to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims are expressed and by variations in the phraseology of the same.
I claim:
1. The combination with a tool holder including a shank, an angular outer end provided with a vertical groove, a yoke member adapted to be supported from said end of the shank to constitute a tool receiving socket and means formed respectively on the yoke and the side faces of said shank end adapted to co-act upon relative vertical adjustments to vary the size of the tool receiving socket, of means for positively locking the yoke to the shank.

3. In a tool holder, a shank and means for clamping a tool to one end thereof, comprisingwedge-shaped portions formed on,
opposite sides of the shank adjacent one end thereof, a yoke having wedge-sha d portions adapted to co-act with the we ge shaped portions on the shank whereby upon verticaladjustments of the yoke the bight of the same will be advanced toward or away from the endof the shank, and means carried by the yoke and adapted to co-act a with the shank to lock and retain theyoke in its adjusted positions thereon.
4. A tool holder comprising a shank having portions formed on the opposite sides thereof disposed at an angle to its terminal, a bight and side legs a member havin adapted to stradd e the shank, opposed portions on the inner side of the legs disposed at an angle to the bight and adapted to coact with the portions of the shank to effect relative movement of the bight and shank upon vertical adjustments of the member, an apertured plate adapted to bridge the upper and inner ends of the legs, an internally threaded apertured portion in the upper end of the shank disposed in alinement with the aperture of said plate and a screw having a threaded shank. inserted through said alined apertures and co-acting with the internally threaded apertured portion of the shank to provide means for locking'the bight in its relatively adjusted relations to the shank.

The combination with a tool holder comprising a shank, a tool seat at the forward end of the shank, a clamping device having means to engage the toolopposite the tool seat,and a complementary sliding connection between the shank and clampin device, said sliding connection inclined wit relation to the tool seat, of means for positively locking the clamping device .to the shank. v
6. The combination with a' tool holder, including a shank, a tool seat at the forward end of the shank, a clamping yoke,
complementary engaging shoulders between the yoke and shank, said'shoulders being relatively inclined to the tool seat, of means for positively locking the yoke to the shank.
7. The combination with a tool holder, including a shank, a tool seat at the forward end of the shank, a clamping yoke,
