Be it known that I, EDWARD H. ELLISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jamestown, in the county of Chautauqua, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Fuses, of which 'the following is a description, reference beinghad to the accompany ing drawing and to the figures of reference marked thereon. My invention relatesto new and useful improvements in electricfuses,
The objectof the invention is to provide an electric fuse in which the two knife blades and the fusible linkare rigidly supported within an inclosing case so that the same may be readily removed and a new link placed therein whenthe same-has' been fused by anovercharge of electricity. At the same time-I provide means whereby the knife blades may be readilyinserted in the inclosing case after the renewal of the fusible link and in which it is impossible to change the relative alined position ofthe two knife blades, so that the fusible link can not be twisted in screwing up the ferrules or caps.
1 A further object of the invention is to provide a fuse ofth'is character in'which the connection between the knife blades and the link is made when removed from the core, so that it can be seen that a perfect' electrical connection-is made and at the same time a fuse is provided of few parts which' nay be readily interchanged.
A still further obj ectof provide an air tight inclosingtube in which the flames are confined uponthe fusing of the link, and at the same time provide a simple, cheap and effective fuse having certain details of structure and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described.

serve as stops for the bridge pieces, as will be later. described. Beyond the lugs 14 and 15, the' ledges'of the blades are provided with oppositely arranged notches16 and 17, into which fit the bridge pieces 18 and 18. These bridgezpiecesare made exactly alike, and are provided with a slot 19, forming along arm 2Qjand a short arm 21, wherebylthe meeting edges ofthe same with the short and long arms of: the opposing bridgepiece,'will come opposite the lugs 14 and 15, as clearly w shown in'Fig. 4 ofthe drawings.
The fiber washer 22 has an opening 23 to snugly fit the knife blade and the -metal washe'ri24 has an opening 25 closely fitting the knife blade,as fully shown in the drawings.--The washer 24 compresses the washer 22 against the end of the casing and forms a tight joint to prevent the flames from passing from the casingupon the fusing of the link.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that the bridge pieces at one end are assembled so that their abutting ends come opposite the lugs 14 and 15, and rest in the notches 16 and 17, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 4 of the drawings, and the washer placed thereon and the knife blades inserted within the casing. When in this position the ends of the bridge pieces enter notches 26 in the ends of the casing and prevent the rotation of the knife blades in the casing, and the ferrule is then screwed upon the casing locking the parts in said position. The bridge pieces at the opposite end oft-he casing are then inserted and the two washers slipped over the knife blade and the ferrule applied in the same manner as heretofore described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A fuse of the character described com;
prising an insulating casing, two knife blades, a removable fusible link connecting said blades, said knife blades having notches in the opposing edges thereof and separate, integral lugs projecting-from the opposite faces thereof, a two part bridge straddling said knife blades, each part adapted to abut each of said lugs and to engage one of the notches in said'blades, and means for closing lugs, shoulders on the blades and saidnotches in said casing, whereby to lock said blades from rotation. r
3. A fuse of the character described comprising an insulatingcasing having locking notches, means for closing the ends of said casing, two knife blades adapted to pass therethrough, a removable fusible link connecting said blades, said blades being formed with notches in the edges and having oppositely extending lugs projecting from the flat facesthereof, bridge members engaging the edge notches and said lugs on each face of the blades and the notches in said casing to non-rotatably lock said blades in said casing.
4. A fuse of the character described comprising an insulating casing, two knife blades, a removable fusible link connecting said blades, a laterally movable two piece bridge straddling the knife blades and. entering notches therein and having their outer ends resting in notches in the casing, lugs struck up from the metal of the knife blades and arranged opposite the abutting ends of the bridge pieces to limit the inward move ment thereof, a fiber washer longitudinally movable on the knife blade, a metal washer longitudinally movable on the knife blades, and a ferrule screwed on the casing and adapted to force. the washers up against the bridge pieces and'lock the same in their interlocked positions. i
5. A fuse of the character described comprising an insulating casing, two knife blades, a removable fusible link connecting the knife blades, laterally movable two piece bridge pieces having arms of different lengths straddling the knife blades and entering notches in the casing, and the short arm of'one piece abutting the long arm of the other piece, means forslimiting the in ward movement of said bridge pieces, and aferrule on the casing for locking the bridge pieces against outward movement in their interlocked position.- y
6. A fuse of the character described comprising an insulating casing, two knife blades, a removable fusible link connecting said blades, said knife blades having notches in their opposing edges and separate lugs projecting from the opposite faces of the blades, said lugs being formed by suitably slotting saidblades and bending the metal thereof transversely to ,each face of a blade, a two-part bridge straddling said blades and held in position by engaging said locking notches and said lugs, and means for closing the ends of the casing.
