l provision of a jack so constructed that the same will have considerably greater 'lifting power than the jacks now in ordinary use. Another object of the invention is the provision of a jack So constructed as to provide for adouble lifting power, that is, a
direct upward pressure from the actuating lever to the raising mechanism and also an indirect power through cam mechanism operatively connected thereto.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a jack such as above described in which the parts thereof 'ar'efso formed .as to render the said jack durable and less liable to get. out of order than the jacks now in use. Y j l A further object of the'invention is the provision of a jack such as above referred to including novel means for manipulating the pawls so that they will afct to raise or to lower the jack as desired.

n Referring now to the accompanying drawings by` corresponding characters of reference throughout the several views, the numeral 15 designates in general my improved jack, which comprises a base 16, from which extends a 'vertical standard 17 which is securely braced -by theribs 18 to the longer of which 4areIVA connected the usual handle members 19. v

The recess 26 is provided at its upper side with. a vertical extension 32 inwhich is slidably mounted a lifting block 33. This I -block 33 is normally forced toits lowermost position by a spring 34 which is seated in the recess 35 formed in the upper end of the block 33 and engages the upper end of the extension 32. i v

The outer edge ofthe bloclz 33 is provided with asecond circular recess 39, andadjacent one edge thereof a rounded extension 40. The recess 39 is adapted to receive the rounded nose 41 of the head 42 of an operating lever 43, while the rounded extension 40 of the block 33 is adapted to fit within the rounded recess 44 formed in the end of the head 42 adjacent the nose 41 thereof.
Obviously, as the lever 43 is forced downwardly in the direction of the' arrow in Fig.
4, the said head 42 will engage the block 33 forcing the same upwardly as shown in the position in F ig. 5. Y f 'A cam member 45 is pivoted as at 46l Within the recess 26 and is provided with an outwardly extending cam portion 47 adapted to be engaged by the lower side of the head'42. Y v v f The forward or inner end of the cam member 45 is provided with a recess 48 in which is inserted one end of thelink 49 the opposite end of which fits within a recess v50 pro-V vided in the lower'rendof the lifting block 33.- VObviously when the lever 43 is forced downwardly in addition to the head 42 by y its engagement with thevblockV 33 forcing the said block upwardly, the cam portion 47 of the member 45 will be forced downwardly, which forces the inner end thereof upwardly and through the medium of the link 49ilikewise forcesthe block 33 upwardly, thus increasing the lifting power of the jack.
A pawl 51 is pivotally mounted, as-shown at 52, in a recess53 in the lower end `of the body portion 20, and engages the teeth 24 of v .thel lifting blockV for .pressure thereon;v

A jack such as described, comprising a body portion, a lifting bar slidably mounted therein, a head upon said lifting bar, rack teeth provided upon said lifting bar, a lifting block mounted in the body portion, a paWl carried thereby the rack teeth of the lifting bar, a lever mounted in the body portion andr having operative engagement with they-lifting block for actuatin the latter, 'additional means connected With the lifting block and the lever, and a second pawl mounted in the body portion of the jack and engaging the rack teeth.

In a jack such as described, the combination of a body portion, a lifting bar slidably mounted therein, a lifting block slidably mounted in the body portion, a pawl carried thereby, teeth provided upon the lifting bar for engagement with the pawl, a cam member pivoted in the bodyportion, a link connecting the cam member and the lifting block, an operating lever pivoted in the body portion and engaging the pivoted cam member and o eratively connected to the lifting block, an a second pawl pivoted in the body portion and engaging the teeth of the lifting bar.

The combination in a jack such as described, of a body portion, a lifting bar having teeth thereon slidably mounted in said body portion, a lifting block mounted in the body portion, a spring for forcing the latterk to its lovvermost position, a lever pivotally connected to the lifting block for raising the latter, a pavvl carried by the lifting block and engaging the teeth of the lifting bar, a second pavvl mounted in the body portion and engaging the teeth of the lifting bar, a cam member pivotally mounted in the body portion in the path of the lever for actuation thereby, and a link connecting the cam member and the lifting block.
