Description

.R. ST. C. CARTER.
ADVERTISING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED JULY 15. 1920.
Patented July 26, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADVERTISING nnvIcE.
Application filed July 15,
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RONALD ST. CLAIR CARTER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of Vancouver, in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in advertising devices, and the object of my invention is to provide a simply constructed, practical andeflicient means whereby advertising matter may be displayed mechanically and in a highly attractive manner.
I attain this object by theconstruction illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a back view of my device, the cover being removed.
Fig. 2 is a front View.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. l. V
Fig. 4: is a sectional view taken on the .line 4-4: of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1.
Similar figures of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views.
1 indicates a box or casing in which the mechanism hereinafter described is inclosed,
- the box having a glass front 2 behind which is placed a wood or metal partition 3 from which it will be seen that the box is divided into two compartments 4 and 5 the front one t being inclosed by the glass front 2 and the partition 3 and the back one 5 being inclosed by the partition 3 and the back cover 6. The partition 3 is providedwith one or more rectangular slots and in the apparatus taken for illustration there are shown in Fig. 2, three such parallel rectangular slots 7, 8, and 9, The four rectangular sections into which the partition 3 is thus divided by the slots 7, 8 and 9 are interconnected by suitable brackets 3, as indi-' cated in Figs. 1 and 3, the said brackets serving to support the three inner sections from the outermost section, it being under stood that the latter section is suitably secured to the sides and ends of the box or casing 1. As shown to better advantage in Fig. 3, the said brackets 3' are U-shaped.
Suitably supported rotatably within the box 1 is a pulley 10 driven by a suitably l0- specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 26", 1921.
1920. Serial No. 396,380.
belt connected to companion pulleys 20, 21
and 22 secured to shafts 23, 24:, and 25 rotatably carried by the support 16 and partition 3, these shafts being provided respectively with small pulleys 26, 27 and 28,
around which passes endless belts 29, 30, and
31, these belts also passing around idler pulleys 32 which may be supported in any suitable manner and are positioned so that the belts move directly behind the respective slots 7, 8 and 9. At suitable intervals in the belts are secured pins 33 which project through the slots to the front of the parti tion 3 and on these pins plates 34 are pivotally hung, the point of connection of each pin being slightly above the longitudinal center line of the plate.
The manner in which the device operates and its utility will be apparent as it will be seen that when the motor pulley 10 is set in motion all the other pulleys will also be rotated causing the plate carrying belts 29, 30, and 31 to travel along behind the slots in the partition so that the plates, which carry the advertising matter, will travel along in front of the partition longitudinally and vertically in an endless chain, as it were, and if the belts connecting lower pulleys 17 and 19 with upper pulleys 20 and and 22 are crossed, the inner and outer belts will travel in a direction opposite to the middle one. No driving mechanism being visible the device is very attractive and thus presents a means of displaying advertising matter in a highly eflicient manner.
What I claim as my invention is 1. An advertising device comprising an upright rectangularly slotted partition, an endless belt arranged to travel behind and opposite said slot, and a plurality of advertising plates pivotally carried by said belt disposed in front of said partition, the point of pivotal connection being above the horizontal center line of the plates.
2. An advertising device comprising a casing, an upright partition within the easing provided With a plurality of parallel rectangular slots contained one Within the 5 other, an endless belt for each slot arranged behind and opposite the same, pins secured to said belts at spaced intervals extending horizontally through said slots'to'the front of said partition, advertising plates pivotally mounted on said 'pins, and means for driving said belts.
Signed at Vancouver, 7th day of July, 1920.
