T 0 all w 720m it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN H. ANDnnsoN, a citizen of the United States, resident of Havana, county of Sargent, State of- North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Pins, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a safety pin of such construction that it will not be pulled out of shape under the tension or pull of the garments thereon and one in which the point of the pin will be held in place without danger of being bent or twisted out'of its proper position.

A further object is to provide a safety pin having means to prevent the clothing from working into or catching in the spring loop at the end of the pin.

The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the drawing, 2 represents the rear bar of the pin, having a spring loop 3 formed at one end thereof, terminating in the point portion 4c of the pin or the part that/is in serted into the garment. At the other end of the bar 2 an angular extension 5 is provided at right angles substantially to the bar 2 and at the end of this extension a part 6 is bent inwardly and the end 7 of this part is extended across the space between the rear and front bars of the pin and has its end 8 looped around the bar 2. This bar 7 forms Specification of Letters Patent.

a substantial support for the loop 6 and also prevents'the bar 4 from being pulled out of place under the strain of the garment on the pin. The point 9 of the bar l, while guarded by the loop 6 and the extension '5, does not engage therewith and consequently is not bent or blunted by pressure on these parts when the pin is subjected to any considerable strain.

Near the loop 3 the bars 2 and 4 have shoulders 10 formed therein and a link 11 is interposed between these shoulders and the loop 3 to serve as a guard for the clothing and prevent it from working into the loop and becoming worn or torn therein. This link 11 is open and allows, therefore,the free movement of the pin point without the necessity of moving the guard link from its normal guarding position.

The pin is made of suitable gage of wire, which may be varied according to the size of the pin and the'strain to which it may be subjected.

I claim as my invention:

A safety pin comprising a rear bar having a loop formed therein at one end, and a forward bar forming a continuation of said loop and terminating in a pin point, the opposite end of said rear bar having a lateral extension and a loop formed thereon and a cross bar for supporting the pin point when inserted into said loop, and said rear and forward. bars having shoulders formed therein and an open link mounted on said bars between said shoulders and said spring loop and said link allowing the free movement of said forward bar while said link is in its normal guiding position, said shoulders holding said link from sliding on the pin when it is closed and said link preventing the garment from entering the adjacent loop in the pin.
