HARNESS-BUCKLE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE V. BURRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Courtland, in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to buckles and the primary object of the invention is to provide an improved buckle which can be readily removed or attached to a strap.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved buckle, in which the bolt supporting tongue can be readily attached to and removed from the frame thereof so that the bolt can be readily removed from the loop formed in the strap, without necessitating the tearing or ripping thereof.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved buckle having the bolt threadedly connected to the frame and tongue, so that the parts can be readily detached to facilitate the placing and removal of the buckle from the strap.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved buckle of the above character, which is durable and efiicient in use, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one that can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction arrangement and formation of parts. as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof, in which:

nate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 generally indicates the improved buckle which includes a substantially rectangular open frame 2 having side bars 3 and connecting end bars 4. The side bars 3 are provided with enlargements 5 intermediate their ends, which are provided with internally threaded bores (i which are adapted to receive a transversely extending bolt 7 upon which is mounted the tongue 8. The terminals of the bolt 7 are threaded as at 9 and 10 and the same are adapted to be turned into the threaded bores 6 of the side bars 3. One terminal of the bolt 7 adjacent the screw threads 9 is provided with a head 11, and the enlargement 5 is countersunk as at 12 to receive the same. The head 11 forms means whereby the bolt may be readily threaded into or out of position. The intermediate portion of the bolt 7 is also provided with a threaded portion 13 which is adapted to be fitted into the internally threaded bore 14 formed in the enlarged end 15 of the tongue 8.

Thus, the bolt can be readily removed from the frame and the tongue 8 by merely threading the same outward from the bores of the bars 8 and tongue 8 and thus permit the frame 2 to be positioned on the strap and the bolt inserted through the loop thereof without necessitating the ripping of the loop and the resewing thereof.

In Fig. 4 is shown an improved device used on the modified form of buckle and in this form, a U-shaped frame 16 is provided which has the terminals of the legs thereof enlarged as at 17 and provided with internally threaded bores 18., which are adapted to receive the bolt 7. The bolts in each form are constructed identically in the same manner.

In practice, I have found that the form of my invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most efficient and practical; yet realizing the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required without sacrificing any of the advantages of my inventhe loop and to secondly tend to prevent tion as set forth. accidental detachment of the bolt. 10
