' Be it known that I, JOSEPH N. Bonnouoris, a citizen of the United States, residingat Oakland, inthe county of Alameda and State ofCalifornia, have invented certain 7 new and useful Improvements in Towel- Holders, of which the following is a speciiication My invention is an improved towel rack.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a front View of my towel rack. Fig. 2 is aplan view thereof.

.v In the drawings, 1 indicates a frame which includes end walls 2 and 3, front wall 4 and Y horizontal partition plate 5 extending between the end walls and formed with end anges 6 secured t0 said end walls. Stud shaft 7 is journaled in wall 2 above partition 5 and shaft 8 is journaled in the wall 2 below partition 5 on which shafts are respectively secured on the inside of wall 2, intermeshing gear 9 and pinion 10. A stud 11 is reciprocally journaled in bearing 12 in end wall 3 in alinement with studshaft 7 A conical engaging head 13 is provided on the inner end of stud shaft 7 for engaging a central conical socket 14 in one end of a towel reel 15, the other end of which reel is provided with a central conical socket 16 to receive a conical engaging head 17 on the inner end of stud 11. A spring 18 is interposed between the end wall 3 and the head 17 for maintaining the heads 13 and 17 respectively in engagement with the reel sockets 14 and 16 respectively whereby the reel is journaled in the frame 1 above partition 5. A towel 20 is wrapped around the reel 15 and extends outwardly from the rack through slot 21 in the front wall 4 and back into the rack through slot 22 in said front wall below slot 21, and then between a corrugated roller 23 mounted on shaft 8 suitably journaled in bearings in walls and 3, and a pressure roller 24 journaled 1n the lower end of swinging arms 25 (pivotally suspended on one of a pair of ro s 27 eX- lof Vthe-towel to hold the SpeciA-cation oflLettersPatent. When said portion of the towel has been used the spring 35 will rotate the roller 23 forwardly to its former .position and draw said portion of the towel back to its former position.

Rollers 40 and 41 are journaled on the frame 1 inside of the front wall 4 in alinement with the slots 21 and 22 respectively over which rollers the towel 2O passes, said rollers preventing the edges of said Aslots from wearing or tearing the towel.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters kPatent is:

1. A towel rack including a frame, a reel liournaled in said frame, take-up means for the used part of the towel, and gearing between said reel and said take-up means whereby said take-up means is operated faster than said reel is unwound, said' takeup means being constructed and arranged t0 permit the towel to slip therein.

2. A towel rack including a frame, a towel reel journaled in said frame, a front wall on said frame provided with slots through which the towel passes, a take-up roller journaled in said rframe over which the towel passes from one of said slots, a friction roller` engaging said take-up roller, a gear on the reel journal, and a pinion on the take-up roller journal meshing with said gear for rotiting said take-up roller faster than said ree Y 3. A towel rack including a frame, a towel reel journaled inv said frame, a front wall on said frame provided withslots through which the towel passes, a take-up roller journaled in said frame over which the towel asses from one of said slots, a friction roller engagin-g said take-up roller, a gear on the reel journal, a pinion on the takeup roller journal meshing with said gear for rotating said take-up roller faster than said reel, and means for permitting a slight backward rotation of said take-up roller.

4. A towel rack including a frame, a towel reel journaled in vsaid frame, a front wall on said frame provided with slots through which the towel passes, a take-up roller journaled in said frame over which the towel passesy from one of said slots, a friction roller engaging said takep roller, a gear on the reel journal, a pinion on the takeup roller journal meshing with said gear for rotating said take-up roller faster than said reel, and a spring against the tension of Y which the take-up roller maj7 be rotated slightly backward.

5. A towel rack including a frame, a towel reel on said frame, a take-up roller on said frame for said towel and a spring for holding the take-up roller in its normal forward position but permitting a slight backward movement of the roller. l

6. A towel rack including a frame, a towel reel journaled in said frame, a front wall on said frame provided with slots through which the towel extends, said slots being spaced apart the distance of the normal length of the exposed portion of the towel for use, a take-up roller journaled in said frame over which the towel passes from one of said slots, a friction roller engaging said take-up roller, a gear on the reel journal, and a pinion on the take-up roller journal meshing with said gear. l

7. A towel rack including a frame, a towel reel journaled in said frame, a front wall on said frame provided with slots through which the towel extends, said slots being spaced apart thev distance of the normal length of the exposed portion of the towel for use, a take-up roller journaled in said frame over which the towel passes from one of said slots, a friction roller engaging said take-up roller, a gear on the'freel journal, a pinion on the take-up roller journal meshing with said gear, and means to permit a slight backward rotation of the take-up roller.
