Description

T. FRUCHTMAN. I NECKTIE AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAIVIE.v APPLICATION FILED APR.21, 1920.
1,379,256. Patented May 24,1921.
INVENTOI? TMJWI,
A 77 ORA/E Y5 I UNITED 'STATES' PATENT or-m THEODORE FBUGHTIAN, OF NEW YORK, N Y.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LTmzonone Fnucnrrmn, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckties and Methods of Making the Same, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and improved construction of necktie or cravat.
One of the objects of my invention is to produce a cravat or the like which shall slide through a turned-down collar of the wellknown type, with a minimum of friction.
Another object of my invention is to produce a cravat which can be quickly and cheaply made.
Another object of my invention is to produce a cravat in which the filling material is sewn throughout its entire length to the face fabric of the article so that it will not shift when in use and bunch up so as to lessen the life of the article.
Other objects of my invention will be dis 'closed in the following description and drawings which illustrate a preferred embodiment thereof.
Figure 1 is a rear view of my improved article.
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the facing or face fabric and the material.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing how the face fabric and-filling illustrated in 2 are doubled over and sewed.
Fig. 4 is a section along the line 4-4 of 1 Fig. 4' is a detail section of the central part of Fig. 4.
Fig. 5 is a section along the line 55 of 2.. F ig.6isasection alongtheline66of piece of face fabric 1 is first cut out into suitable form, one of the shapes which the blank of face fabric may asume being shown in 2.
A piece 0 filling material 2 is then sewed ontotherearof facinglbymeansof'aline of stitching 3.
The filling material 2 is preferably made of a light thin material which is somewhat stiffer than theordinary soft filling materials heretofore used.
The facing '1 and the filling 2 are now Specification of Letters Patent.

tubular structure inside of the facing 1,-
being connected to one half of the-cravat b the stltchmg 3 and being connected to both 1 is now on the outside of the I,
halves of the cravat bv means of the stitching 4.
The stitching 3 and 4 can be done by means of the ordinary sewingmachine.
As a result of the method of manufacture above mentioned, the filling is sewed to the facing along its entire length and along the edges thereof, while substantially all the rest of the filling is unsecured to the facing but is in substantially fixed relation thereto.
I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention but it is clear that numerous changes may be made in the method, and the construction of the article itself produced by this new and improved method, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
It is preferable to have the filling material 2 of substantially the same contour as the adjacent part of the facing 1.
' I claim 2-- 1. A method of making a necktie or the like which consists in sewing the longitudinal edge of a iece of filling material to a longitudinal e ge of the rear surface of a fac then doubling over the said facing material so that the facing is folded inside out, then stitching together the edges of the doubled-over facing and an then the article thus made insi e out, a suflicient portion of the said filling being left unsecured to the said facing, so thatthe said filling material forms a loose, tulbmuiar structure within the said facing mate 2. A method of making a necktie or the like which consists of sewing together the four adjacent edges of a doubled-over piece of facing and a doubled-over piece of filling material, the said facing being doubled-over so as to be inside out, and then turning the structure thus made inside out.
3. A necktie or the like comprising a piece material sewed together a ong the median e of ttjllilen rear thel'flif, the said fa ha wi itapieceo filhng' mater i ail whb s e edges are connected to each other and to the facing by the same stitches edges of the facing and the filling being conwhich connect the edges of the facing, subnected to each other, substantially the entire stantially the entire remaining part of the remaining part of the said filling material said filling material being unsecured to the being unsecured to the said facing material,
5 said facing material, so that the said filling so that the said filling material forms a loose, material forms aloose, tubular structure tubular structure within the said facing within the said facing material.- material.
4. A necktie or the like comprisinga dou- I testimony whereof I-'hereunto aflix my bled-over facing and a doubled-over piece of signature. 10 filling material therein, the four adjacent THEODORE FRUCHTMAN.
