To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that we, SAMUEL APPELMAN and SAMUEL BERNSTEIN, citizens 'of the United States, residing county of White Pine and State of Nevada, hav invented certain new and useful Improi-ements in Neckties, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to articles of neckwear, and has for its object to provide a necktie and a method of making the same 'cut into sha e and showing the location of a line of StltCllBS' by means of which the lining-bands are attached to said-material. One of the desired features of a necktie 5 that it retain its form longitudinally and iterally when subjected to wear and the andling necessary to form the knot orbow 'hich gives it an artistic effect, for it has een found that to subject neckties to wear nd .the necessary handling, pulling and retching required to form theknot, that 1e portion which is formed into a bow or lot will roll up, become creased and rinkled; and the edges of the ties stretch it of shape. We overcome these objections the'tie produced by our method, which nsists of cutting the tie material into the sired shape and stitching the padding and Specification 01' Letters Patent.

lining material thereto and then folding the said material and giving it the desired form and the inside or concealed stitching required to hold it in a neat and attractive manner. The tie material when out and before it is shaped is shown in Fig. l at A on the inside of which is sewed strips of linin material B by a row of stitches 1 outsi e of what is the edge of the finished tie when folded on dotted lines a shown in Fig. 1. Pieces of padding material C, preferably made of cotton flannel or similar goods .are cut into form and secured with the end ortions of the tie and a neck band pad ing D made of stiffer material issewed to the alined ends of said padding C to form a continuous padding, and on the inner side of which is sewed apiece of tape E extending centrally alongl the end paddings and likewise sewed on t e ends of the neck band padding, to give the padding longitudinal strength and preventing its stretching. The said lining strips B hold the edges of the tie from stretching and the padding 0 as refor 'foldin and stitching into form, this IS done by f0 ding the outer edges of tie tained in position by being sewed to said strips B prevents the tie from creasing and rolling up.

Having thus described our invention we desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim 1. A necktie composed of a piece of appropriately shaped tie fabric, lining strips stitched on its reverse side with longitudinal rows of stitches spaced from the outer fold ed edgesof the finished tie, said fabric and lining strips being folded upon themselves with the outer edges of said'tie fabric meeting in a central line, and with said edges of said tie fabric sewed together; longitudinally alined padding pieces and a neck band padding between them sewed to the said lining strips with portions of said padding ieces sewed to the said tie fabric within the folded form by diagonally disposed cross rows of stitches and the said neck band padding likewise sewed Within theform by longitudina-lly disposed rows of stitches through said neck band padding and both faces of said tie fabric.

2. A necktie comprising a piece of tie fabric folded in appropriate form with the folded over edges meeting on the back face;
