lie it known that I, DOMENIGK M. CUA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Uhio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cue-Straighteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to methods of and apparatus for straightening billiard cues, and it comprises a method of straightening cues wherein the cue is wrapped in a sheet of wet material, such as paper, straightened, and maintained in such position for a suitable length of time until the wrapping has dried, and it further comprises an apparatus suitable in use for performing the process, such apparatus including a mold formed in two sections to permit insertion of the one and wrapping, screw supports carried by one of the mold sections, screws mounted in said supports and adapted to engage the other section of the mold to tighten the mold on the cue.
Cues employed in playing billiards and similar games become warped or crooked after they have been in use for some time. It is impossible to properly make various shots with billiard balls when the cue beingused has become crooked, and thus the cues are rendered practically useless.
In the present invention, I have produced a method of straightening billiard cues which is very simple and which may be practised in billiard rooms and other places where the game is played. The cue is wrapped in a sheet of suitable material such as paper and is then placed in a mold or apparatus whereby the one may be held in a straightened position for a suitable length of time. The cue is generally left in the mold until the paper has thoroughly dried, generally about five or six hours.
The invention further comprises apparatus suitable for use in performing the process consisting in two mold sections and means for tightening the two sections after the one has been placed in position.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 have shown an apparatus particularly adapted for use in practising the process. In this showing,

Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates the lower mold section and 2 the upper section. As shown, the mpld is divided longitudinally to permit insertlon of a cue to be straightened and is made of suitable length to receive the entire cue. The lower mold section is provided with legs 3 having horizontal flanges 4L, whereby the mold may be properly supported on a table or stand. The flanges 4 are provided with openings 5 to permit the lower section of the mold to be permanently mounted at any desired point.
The fastening means consists of yokes 6 adapted to embrace the upper mold section, the ends of the arms of the yoke being provided with openings for the reception of a bolt or pin 7, passing through the lower section of the mold, whereby the yokes are pivotally supported thereon. The upper sections are provided with bearing blocks ar ranged adjacent the yokes of the lower section. As shown, these bearing blocks 8 are provided with recesses 9 and with sloping walls or flanges 10. The yoke is provided with a centrally arranged opening adapted to receive a threaded bolt or pin 11, the lower end of the bolt being received in the recess 9 of the bearing block. The position of the one is designated at 12, and as shown, a sheet of material such as paper 13 is wrapped around the one before it is placed in the mold.
In performing the process, the one is first wrapped with a wet sheet of paper or other suitable material and then placed in the mold. The screws or bolts 11 are then adjusted to tighten the two sections of the mold to the same degree at each end and in the middle. A plurality of adjusting or tightening means are shown whereby accurate assemblage may be obtained. Any desired number of tightening means may be employed. At the point where the one is. bent or crooked, it is necessary to apply more pressure in tightening the threaded elements 11, but when the elements have been properly adjusted, the two sections of the mold should be substantially the same distance from each other throughout their length. The cue is allowed to remain in the mold for sufficient time to dry the aper or other material placed around it. he provision of the wet paper or other material prevents cracking of the cue during the straightening operation When the cue has been straightened, it may be readily removed from the mold by loosening the threaded elements 11 and lifting the upper section of the mold away from the lower section.
It is to be understood that while I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. The method of straightening cues which comprises wrapping a cue in a sheet of wet material, placing it in a mold and allowing it to remaln in said mold until the sheet of material is substantially dry.
