CONDTMEN {l1-HOLDER.
i `Specucaton of Letters Patent. y `13".mlggngggd API-Q26" 1921',
Application filed January 23, 1919.` Serial No. 272,754.
, clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable other skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make 'and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in condiment holders of the character to contain different kinds of ingredients and has for one of its objects the provision of means for controlling the dispension of said ingredients so that one or the other can be dispensed separately or both simultaneously.
Another object of this invention is the provision of auxiliary chambers closed by the usual perforated top or cover and having a controlling slide adapted to be operated from the exterior of the device so that the ingredients can be controlled into the chambers and outwardly through the cover or top.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a condiment holder of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable, and efiicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost. p
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds', they invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
F or a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a condiment holder constructed in accordance with my' invention,
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line Y 3-3 of F ig. 2 looking in the direction indicated by the arrow, and
l ig. 4 is a the cover or top removed.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a body of a condiment plan view of the device with holder having the usual tapering side walls i andthe flat bottom wall2 on which the devicelis adapted to rest. rlhe body 1 is divided by a partition 3 yformingchambers 4 and 5 which are adapted to contain r'salt and pepper, respectively. The upper edge of the partition 3 terminates in a plane with the upperedge of the side walls of the wall 1. Ahorizontal partition 6 is formed upon the partition 3 and side walls of the body 1 to form auxiliaryA chambers 7 and 8, to the salt and pepper chambers 4 and 5, respectively. lThe partition 6 is provided with circular openings 9 permitting a communication from the auxiliary chambers to the salt and pepper chambers 4 and 5. At a point above the partition 6, the partition 3 is provided with a slot 10 in which is positioned a pivot pin 11. The pivot pin 11 pivotally supports a controlling slide or member 12 ,that has formed thereon an extension 13 that extends through a slot in the side wall of the body at a point above the artition 6. The
extension 13 has formed t ereon a suitable handle 14 so that the slideor controlling member 12 can be swung to close either of the openings 9 thus preventing the ingredients of the corresponding chambers 4 or 5,
from passing into the corresponding auxiliary chambers, thus permitting ,the ingredients to be dispensed from the main, or salt and pepper chambers separately into the auxiliary chambers. lf desired, the slide or controlling member l2 can beso positioned as to leave both of the openings 9 of the partition 6 uncovered gredients within the chambers 4 and 5 can be simultaneously dispensed'into the auxiliary chambers 7 and 8 by turning the device up-side-down.
Screw threads are formed u Jon the upper edge of the side walls of the ody 1 to cooperate with screw threads vformed upon an annular flange 15 of a perforated cover 16, which overlies the auxiliary chambers 7 and 8 and permit the escape of the ingredients from the auxiliary chambers when the device is inverted. c
When it is desired to till the chambers 4 and 5 with salt and pepper, the cover 16 is removed andthe slide or controlling member 12 is so positioned as to leave the openings `9 uncovered and the salt and pepper then may be poured into their respective chambers. l
so that the in- While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it Will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be made Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. Y
Having thus described my invention, What I claim is A condiment holder comprising a body having its upper end open 'and screw threaded, a partition formed in said body to provide a pair of main compartments and said partition terminating in a plane With the upper edge of said body, horizontal partitions formed on the first named partition and Wall of said body to provide auxiliary compartments and saidy horizontal partitions having openings to communicate the main and auxiliary compartments, a perforated cover threaded to the upper end of said body and bearing against the upper end of the rst named partition, said iirst named partition and body each having aslot above the horizontal partitions, and a closure element pivoted in the slot of the first namedr partition and extendingthrough the slot of the body so that the same can be moved from one auxiliary compartment to the other for closing and opening the openings between the main` and auxiliary compartments.
