Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 19, 1921.
Application filed September 20, 1919. Serial No. 325,114.
T 0 all whom t may concern.' Y
Be it known that I, CLARENCE H. Rooirnr, a citizen of the United Statesresiding at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Indirect-Light-Bowl Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to suspension de vices for the bowls or globes used in indirect electric lighting fixtures which are now com-y mon in the art. The object of the invention isto provide a mechanism of this class which can be readily adjusted and adapted to globes or bowls of different dimensions without its being necessary to supply a special holder for each different bowl.
The invention consists in mechanism capable of carrying out the foregoing objects which can be easily and cheaply made, which is satisfactory in operation, and is not readily liable to get out of order. More particularly the invention consists in many features and details of construction which will be hereafter more fully set forth in the speciiication and claim.
Referring to the drawings in which like numerals represent the same parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a plan view of mechanism illustrating this invention in its preferred yform taken above suoli mechanism and above the bowl suspended by it.
Fig. 2 is a sectional side view taken on the line 2 2, Fig. 1.
The mechanism illustrating the invention is provided with a central plate 10 which may or may not be suspended fromy the ceiling of the room by an attaching device not shown inserted through a central hole 12. This plate is provided with horizontally extending adjustable arms 14, 15, and 16, whose outer ends 30 engage the lighting bowl 17 on its flange 19. In the particular ing, each horizontal arm'is slidable through a perforation 18 formed in the down turned end 19 ofthe central plate 10 and is adjustably positioned by a set screw 2O inserted in the slidable arm as 14, sliding in a slot 22 formed in the central member. By loosening the screw 20, each extending arm 14, l5, or 16, as the case may be, may be properly adjusted longitudinally and locked in position by resetting the set screw 20.
The inner end of each arm, as 14, 15, and 16, is provided with a downwardly turned end projection 24 adapted to be engaged by the lingers of the operator to move the adjacent arm in and out as desired during adjusting operation. The device may be hung from the ceiling by chains attached at hooks 26 if desired.
The part marked 28 is a special lamp support.
Having thus described my invention what 1 claim as ynew and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is :7
ln mechanism of the class described, a horizontal central member of flat metal having its outer edge bent to a vertical plane, an adjustable arm slidable therefrom, through an opening made in said vertically turned edge, a pin and slot connection between said members located between the center of the device and said vertically turned edge, for detachably fastening the arm in various positions with reference to the central member, and means on the outer eX- tremity of thc arm for` attachment to the end cf a lighting bowl.
In witness whereof l have hereunto subscribed my name 1n the presence of two witnesses.
