HEATING-RADIATOR OR THE LIKE;
Specification of Letters Patent. 7
. Patented Ma. 15, 1921.
Application filed February 6, 1920. Serial No. 356,640.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY PIoxUP, Jr., a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Scarborou h, in the county of York and Kingdom of E ngland, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to HeatingR-adiators or the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improved means for fixing heating radiators or the like to a wall or other surface, and is designed to provide a clip which will hold the radiator firmly in a vise-like grip, so that the radiator cannot move either away from the wall or toward it, and yet the clip is fixed in the simplest possible manner and in such a way as not to damage the plaster or other substance the clip is fastened to.
The invention will be understood from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a front view, and
Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the clip applied to a radiator,
Fig. 3 is a detail view of the parts composing the clip, 7
ig. 4 is an end view of a radiator showing a slight modification,
Fig. 5 is a face view of the bracket shown in Fig. 4.
Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the clip is composed of the following parts ;a plug A of suitable material, such as fiber, which fits into a hole its exact size drilled into the wall B; a rose 0 fitting on the wall over the end of the plug A; a tubular distance piece D out to the exact length desired; a pair of snugs E preferably of cast iron, fitting between the sections F of the radiator; and a screw G of the required length, which is.
screwed through the whole into the plug A in the wall. The rose C which may be of cast iron, is preferably recessed to receive one end of the distance piece D, and of course has a central hole through it for the passage of the screw G. One snug E fits in between the sections F of the radiator at one side, and the other snug E fits opposite the first on the other side of the radiator.
When the screw G is home the radiator is held firmly in position. An important feature of the clip is that it can be fixed after the radiator is fitted up.
The rose C is not essential, and can be dispensed with in some cases if desired, as
when a proper drill is used for making the hole in the wall, and the plug A is small. and exactly the right size, the distance piece end would be sufficient to cover up any slight disfigurement of the plaster around the hole. The rose 0 might be dispensed with when the clip is fixed on marble or other hard substance. The steel screw G is of the proper length according to the size of the radiator and the distance it is to stand from the wall.
The cast iron snugs E are made to suit different kinds of radiators. Thus, for example, the snug can be made longeron one side than the other, so as to suit a single column radiator fixed the long way on, and double column and larger radiators when fixed the other way on.
en it is required to fix the radiator on a wall without any support from the floor, I use a bracket H, (Figs. 4 and 5) say of cast iron or sheet steel, having a tubular distance piece J at the top. This bracketenters between the sections of the radiator near the 7 top. The top hub of the radiator rests on the pair of snugs E supported by the bracket H, which has lateral flanges bearing against the wall, and the long screw (1' passes through the tubular portion J.
I declare that what I claim is 1. A clip for fixing radiators or the like to a wall or other surface, comprising in combination a plug which fits into a hole in the wall, a tubular distance piece cut to the length required, a pair of snugs fitting between the sections of the radiator or the like, and a screw of the requiredlength which is passed through the distance piece and snugs and into the plug in the wall.
2. A clip for holding radiators or the like to a wall or other surface comprising in combination a plug which fits into a hole drilled in a wall, a rose fitting over said plug, a tubular distance piece cut to the exact length desired, a pair of snugs fitting bee tween the sections of the radiator or the like one at each side, and a screw of the required length which is passed through the snugs and the tubular distance piece and screwed into the plug.
3. A clip for fixing radiators or the like to a wall or other surface, comprising in com bination a plug which fits into a hole in the distance piece formed at top thereof and my name this 12th day of January, 1920, in lateral flalgiS, a (Emir of SIElgS betweeifl tiile the presence of two subscribing witnesses. sections 0 t e ra iator, an a, screw 0 t e required lenoh which is passed through the i HARRY PHJKUP JUNIOR- 5 snugs and. tu ular part and screwed into the Witnesses:
