v To all whom may concern."
Ee it known that l, EUGENE M. SonnincmR, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Burlington, in the county of Des Moines and State of iowa, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Picture-Frames, of which the following is a specication. y
This invention relates to an improved picture frame and the principal object of the invention is to provide a picture `frame which will be adjustable so as to accommodate itself to various size pictures and to also provide improved means for preventing the sections of the frame trom coming entirely apart and to further provide improved means for holding the picture within the frame and for holding the frame in an adjusted position. A frame so constructed as to accomplish these and other objects 1s shown in the accompanying drawlngs, wherein:- Figure 1 is a rear elevation showmg the upper portion of a trame constructed 1n accordance with'this invention. Eig. 2 is a sectional view taken along the line. 2--2 of Eig. 1. Ei .i 3 is a perspective view ot one of the ba e plates connectingy the corner sections of the frame. Eig. 4 is a sectional view taken along the line Li---c of F1g. 1. Eig. 5 is a view similar to Eig 1 showing the frame section in an adJusted pos1t1on. Eig. 6 is a' perspective view of the picture engaging clamp or tongue.
The corner pieces 10 of the trame are shown constructed of wood or some other solid substance but they may be formed ot sheet metal it desired according to the wishes of the person constructing the frame. IThese corner pieces are connected by plates 11 formed of sheet metall and having their rear Walls 12 provided with longitudinally extending slots 13 through which the lugs 11i pass to prevent the corner pieces from vbeing entirely disconnected from the plates.
rlFhese lugs 14 are preferably screws Which are passed through the eyes l5 of the spring tongues or clamps 16 serving to hold the picture in engagement with the frame. The
plates will tightly engage the corner pieces ened after the frame has been adjusted to create the binding action.
In order to suspend the picture there is provided an eye 17 held in engagement with the upper baiie 1l by having its inner end formed into a head 18. lt is of course understood that if desired any other suitable form of means for suspending the picture could be provided.
What is claimed is A picture frame comprising corner sections, connecting plates having sliding engagement-with said corner sections and provided with longitudinally extending slots, pins carried by said corner sections extend'- ing through said slots to limit the sliding movement of said connecting plates and-said corner sections, land resilient gripping iingers carried by said pins and extending across said sections to engage and hold a picture within the frame.
In testimony'wherof ll ax my signature in presence of two witnesses.
